Zeroing in on the initial state — tomography using bulk, jets and photons
2014
One of the unsolved problems in the current 'standard model' of heavy ion physics is the apparent rapid thermalization of QCD matter in the pre-equilibrium stage. While it is challenging to probe this mechanism directly, there are now several observables available which allow tomographic imaging of the initial state geometry, which is expected to carry remnant information of the equilibration mechanism. On the fluid dynamics side, scaled fluctuations in the momentum space anisotropy parameters v_n image the initial eccentricity fluctuations epsilon_n almost directly with only a weak dependence on the details of the fluid dynamical evolution. From a different direction, due to the strong non…
Centrality dependence ofπ,K, andpproduction in Pb-Pb collisions atsNN=2.76TeV
2013
In this paper measurements are presented of pi(+/-), K-+/-, p, and (p) over bar production at midrapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5), in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV as a function of centrality. The measurement covers the transverse-momentum (p(T)) range from 100, 200, and 300 MeV/c up to 3, 3, and 4.6 GeV/c for pi, K, and p, respectively. The measured p(T) distributions and yields are compared to expectations based on hydrodynamic, thermal and recombination models. The spectral shapes of central collisions show a stronger radial flow than measured at lower energies, which can be described in hydrodynamic models. In peripheral collisions, the p(T) distributions are not…
Adiabaticity and color mixing in tetraquark spectroscopy
2013
We revisit the role of color mixing in the quark model calculation of tetraquark states, and compare simple pairwise potentials to more elaborate string models with three-and four-body forces. We attempt to disentangle the improved dynamics of confinement from the approximations made in the treatment of the internal color degrees of freedom.
A study of strange particle production in nu(mu) charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment
2001
A study of strange particle production in $\nu_\mu$ charged current interactions has been performed using the data from the NOMAD experiment. Yields of neutral strange particles ($K^0_s, \Lambda, \bar{\Lambda}$) have been measured. Mean multiplicities are reported as a function of the event kinematic variables $E_\nu$, $W^2$ and $Q^2$ as well as of the variables describing particle behaviour within a hadronic jet: $x_F$, $z$ and $p_T^2$. Decays of resonances and heavy hyperons with identified $K^0_s$ and $\Lambda$ in the final state have been analyzed. Clear signals corresponding to $\rm {K^\star}^\pm$ $\rm {\Sigma^\star}^\pm$, $\rm \Xi^-$ and $\rm \Sigma^0$ have been observed. A study of s…
Integrating out strange quarks in ChPT
2007
We study three flavour chiral perturbation theory in a limit where the strange quark mass is much larger than the external momenta and the up and down quark masses, and where the external fields are those of two-flavour chiral perturbation theory. In this case, the theory reduces to the one of SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R. Through this reduction, one can work out the strange quark mass dependence of the LECs in the two-flavour case. We present the pertinent relations at two-loop order for F,B and l_i.

Strange nucleon form-factors
2017
Abstract A broad program measuring parity-violation in electron-nuclear scattering has now provided a large set of precision data on the weak-neutral-current form-factors of the proton. Under comparison with well-measured electromagnetic nucleon form-factors, these measurements reveal the role of the strange quark sea on the low-energy interactions of the proton through the strange-quark-flavor vector form-factors. This review will describe the experimental program and the implications of the global data for the strange-quark vector form-factors. We present here a new fit to the world data.
Parity Violating Electron Scattering at the MAMI Facility in Mainz
2005
We report here on a new measurement of the parity violating (PV) asymmetry in the scattering of polarized electrons on unpolarized protons performed with the setup of the A4-collaboration at the MAMI accelerator facility in Mainz. This experiment is the first to use counting techniques in a parity violation experiment. The kinematics of the experiment is complementary to the earlier measurements of the SAMPLE collaboration at the MIT Bates accelerator and the HAPPEX collaboration at Jefferson Lab. After discussing the experimental context of the experiments, the setup at MAMI and preliminary results are presented.
Measurement of the top quark mass in final states with two leptons
2009
We present measurements of the top quark mass in ttbar candidate events with two final state leptons using 1 inverse fb of data collected by the D0 experiment. Our data sample is selected by requiring two fully identified leptons or by relaxing one lepton requirement to an isolated track if at least one jet is tagged as a b jet. The top quark mass is extracted after reconstructing the event kinematics under the ttbar hypothesis using two methods. In the first method, we integrate over expected neutrino rapidity distributions, and in the second we calculate a weight for the possible top quark masses based on the observed particle momenta and the known parton distribution functions. We analyz…
Measurement of the top-quark mass inpp¯collisions using events with two leptons
2012
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-29T05:11:39Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2012-09-26 We present a measurement of the top-quark mass (m t) in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.96TeV using tt̄ events with two leptons (ee, eμ, or μμ) and accompanying jets in 4.3fb -1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We analyze the kinematically underconstrained dilepton events by integrating over their neutrino rapidity distributions. We reduce the dominant systematic uncertainties from the calibration of jet energy using a correction obtained from tt̄ events with a final state of a single lepton plus jets. We also correct jets in simulated events to replic…
