Measurement oftt¯production in theτ+jetstopology usingpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2010
We present a measurement of the t (t) over bar production cross section multiplied by the branching ratio to tau lepton decaying semihadronically (tau(h)) plus jets, sigma(p (p) over bar -> t (t) over bar + X) center dot BR(t (t) over bar -> tau(h) + jets), at a center of mass energy root s = 1.96 TeV using 1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector. Assuming a top quark mass of 170 GeV, we measure sigma(t (t) over bar) center dot BR tau h (+ j) = 0.60(-0.22)(+0.23)(stat)(-0.14)(+0.15)(syst) +/- 0.04(lumi) pb. In addition, we extract the t (t) over bar production cross section using the t (t) over bar -> tau(h) + jets topology, with the result sigma(t (t) over bar) = 6…
First simultaneous measurement of the top quark mass in thelepton+jetsand dilepton channels at CDF
2009
We present a measurement of the mass of the top quark using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb{sup -1} of pp collisions collected at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at Fermilab's Tevatron. This is the first measurement of the top quark mass using top-antitop pair candidate events in the lepton+jets and dilepton decay channels simultaneously. We reconstruct two observables in each channel and use a nonparametric kernel density estimation technique to derive two-dimensional probability density functions from simulated signal and background samples. The observables are the top quark mass and the invariant mass of two jets from the W decay in the lepton+jets…
Precision measurement of the top-quark mass inlepton+jetsfinal states
2015
We measure the mass of the top quark in lepton + jets final states using the full sample of p (p) over bar collision data collected by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. We use a matrix element technique that calculates the probabilities for each event to result from t (t) over bar production or background. The overall jet energy scale is constrained in situ by the mass of the W boson. We measure m(t) = 174.98 +/- 0.76 GeV. This constitutes the most precise single measurement of the top-quark mass.
Measurement of theCP-violating phaseβsJ/ψϕinBs0→J/ψϕdecays with the CDF II detector
2012
We present a measurement of the \CP-violating parameter \betas using approximately 6500 $$\BsJpsiPhi$$ decays reconstructed with the CDF\,II detector in a sample of $$p\bar p$$ collisions at $$\sqrt{s}=1.96$$ TeV corresponding to 5.2 fb$$^{-1}$$ integrated luminosity produced by the Tevatron Collider at Fermilab. We find the \CP-violating phase to be within the range $$\betas \in [0.02, 0.52] \cup [1.08, 1.55]$$ at 68% confidence level where the coverage property of the quoted interval is guaranteed using a frequentist statistical analysis. This result is in agreement with the standard model expectation at the level of about one Gaussian standard deviation. We consider the inclusion of a po…
Measurement of the fraction oftt¯production via gluon-gluon fusion inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2009
We present a measurement of the ratio of the tt production cross section via gluon-gluon fusion to the total tt production cross section in pp collisions at √s=1.96 TeV at the Tevatron. Using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 955 pb-1 recorded by the CDF II detector at Fermilab, we select events based on the tt decay to lepton+jets. Using an artificial neural network technique we discriminate between tt events produced via qq annihilation and gg fusion, and find Gf=σ(gg→tt )/σ(pp →tt )<0.33 at the 68% confidence level. This result is combined with a previous measurement to obtain the most stringent measurement of this quantity by CDF to date, Gf=0.07-0.07+0.15.
Weak magnetic dipole moments in two-Higgs-doublet models
1995
We investigate the effects of the new scalars in a two-Higgs-doublet model on the weak magnetic dipole moments of the fermions at the $Z$ peak. Proportionality of the Yukawa couplings to the fermion masses, and to $\tan{\beta}$, makes such effects more important for the third family, and potentially relevant. For the $\tau$ lepton, the new diagrams are suppressed by $v_\tau = 2 \sin^2 \theta_W - 1/2$, or by powers of $m_\tau/M_Z$, but may still be comparable to the SM electroweak contributions. In contrast, we find that the new contributions for the bottom quark may be much larger than the SM electroweak contributions. These new effects may even compete with the gluonic contribution, if the…
Limits on Anomalous Top Couplings from Z Pole Physics
1997
We obtain constraints on possible anomalous interactions of the top quark with the electroweak vector bosons arising from the precision measurements at the Z pole. In the framework of $SU(2)_L \otimes U(1)_Y$ chiral Lagrangians, we examine all effective CP-conserving operators of dimension five which induce fermionic currents involving the top quark. We constrain the magnitudes of these anomalous interactions by evaluating their one-loop contributions to the Z pole physics. Our analysis shows that the operators that contribute to the LEP observables get bounds close to the theoretical expectation for their anomalous couplings. We also show that those which break the $SU(2)_C$ custodial symm…
CORRELATIONS BETWEEN ε′/ε AND HEAVY TOP
1991
The paper reviews new theoretical developments for the CP-parameter ε′/ε and its intimate connection with the mass of a heavy top quark. It presents an extensive list of results and their implications for experiments.
Longitudinal, transverse-plus and transverse-minus W-bosons in unpolarized top quark decays at O(alpha_s)
2000
We consider the O(alpha_s) radiative corrections to the decay of an unpolarized top quark into a bottom quark and a W-gauge boson where the helicities of the W are specified as longitudinal, transverse-plus and transverse-minus. The O(alpha_s) radiative corrections lower the normalized longitudinal rate Gamma_L/Gamma by 1.06% and increase the the normalized transverse-minus rate Gamma_-/Gamma by 2.17%. We find that the normalized transverse-plus rate Gamma_+/Gamma, which vanishes at the Born term level for m_b->0, receives radiative correction contributions at the sub-percent level. We discuss m_b!=0 effects for the Born term and the alpha_s-contributions but find these to be small. Our …
