Simultaneous Measurement of the RatioR=B(t→Wb)/B(t→Wq)and the Top-Quark Pair Production Cross Section with the D0 Detector ats=1.96  TeV

2008

We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching fractions, R = B(t --> Wb)/B(t --> Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top-quark pair production cross section sigma(t (t) over bar) in the lepton plus jets channel using 0.9 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector. We extract R and sigma(t (t) over bar) by analyzing samples of events with 0, 1, and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97(-0.08)(+0.09) (stat + syst) and sigma(t (t) over bar) = 8.18(-0.84)(+0.90) (stat + syst) +/- 0.50(lumi) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Measurement of the correlation between the polar angles of leptons from top quark decays in the helicity basis ats=7  TeVusing the ATLAS detector

2016

A measurement of the correlations between the polar angles of leptons from the decay of pair-produced t and (t) over bar quarks in the helicity basis is reported, using proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV collected during 2011. Candidate events are selected in the dilepton topology with large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. The angles theta(1) and theta(2) between the charged leptons and the direction of motion of the parent quarks in the t (t) over bar rest frame are sensitive to the spin information, and the distribution of …

Quark and lepton mixing in weak interactions

1986

The coupling strength of weak interactions between quarks of different flavour shows a clear pattern: couplings between members of the same family are much stronger than the ones between neighbour families and couplings between first and third family haye escaped detection so far. The coupling strength between different families decreases with increasing quark mass, but a theoretical explanation of this pattern is still missing. On the other side, lepton mixing and neutrino oscillations have not been seen in experiments yet. An analysis of experimental data in the framework of simultaneous oscillations of three neutrino fluxes yields limits on the three mixing angles which are about as rest…

CP Properties of Higgs Boson Interactions with Top Quarks in the tt¯H and tH Processes Using H→γγ with the ATLAS Detector

2020

A study of the charge conjugation and parity (CP) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and top quarks is presented. Higgs bosons are identified via the diphoton decay channel (H→γγ), and their production in association with a top quark pair (tt[over ¯]H) or single top quark (tH) is studied. The analysis uses 139  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Assuming a CP-even coupling, the tt[over ¯]H process is observed with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The measured cross section times H→γγ branching ratio is 1.64_{-0.36}^{+0.38}(stat)_{-0.14}^{+0.17}(sys) …

Search for Production of Single Top Quarks ViatcgandtugFlavor-Changing-Neutral-Current Couplings

2007

We search for the production of single top quarks via flavor-changing neutral current couplings of a gluon to the top quark and a charm ($c$) or up ($u$) quark. We analyze 230 pb$^{-1}$ of lepton + jets data from $\ppbar$ collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We observe no significant deviation from standard model predictions, and hence set upper limits on the anomalous coupling parameters $\kappacLambda$ and $\kappauLambda$, where $\kappag$ define the strength of $tcg$ and $tug$ couplings, and $\Lambda$ defines the scale of new physics. The limits at 95% C.L. are: $\kappacLambda < 0.15 \rm TeV^{-1}$ and $\kappauLam…

UPDATE OF ELECTROWEAK PARAMETERS FROM Z DECAYS

1993

Based on 520000 fermion pairs accumulated during the first three years of data collection by the ALEPH detector at LEP, updated values of the resonance parameters of the Z are determined to be M(Z) = (91.187 +/- 0.009) GeV, GAMMA(Z) = (2.501 +/- 0.012) GeV, sigma(had)0 = (41.60 +/- 0.27) nb, and R(l) = 20.78 +/- 0.13. The corresponding number of light neutrino species is N(v) = 2.97 +/- 0.05. The forward-backward asymmetry in lepton-pair decays is used to determine the ratio of vector to axial-vector couplings of leptons: g(V)2(M(z)2)/g(A)2 (M(Z)2) = 0.0052 +/- 0.00 1 6. Combining this with ALEPH measurements of the b and c quark asymmetries and tau polarization gives sin2theta(W)eff = 0.23…

Experimental analysis of weak mixing angles between three or four quark generations

1987

New data on weak quark decays and on weak heavy quark production are used to obtain the allowed ranges of elements of the quark mixing matrix for three or four generations of sequential quarks. The analysis yields allowed ranges for the three mixing angles in the six-quark case and for the six mixing angles in the eight-quark case.

Axion quark nuggets and how a global network can discover them

2020

We advocate an idea that the presence of the daily and annual modulations of the axion flux on the Earth surface may dramatically change the strategy of the axion searches. Our computations are based on the so-called Axion Quark Nugget (AQN) dark matter model which was originally put forward to explain the similarity of the dark and visible cosmological matter densities $\Omega_{\rm dark}\sim \Omega_{\rm visible}$. In our framework, the population of galactic axions with mass $ 10^{-6} {\rm eV}\lesssim m_a\lesssim 10^{-3}{\rm eV}$ and velocity $\sim 10^{-3} c$ will be always accompanied by the axions with typical velocities $\sim 0.6 c$ emitted by AQNs. We formulate the broadband detection …

Measurements of inclusive jet spectra in pp and central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV

2020

This article reports measurements of the pT- differential inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at √s=5 .02TeV and the pT- differential inclusive jet yield in Pb-Pb 0–10% central collisions at√sNN =5.02TeV. Jets were reconstructed at midrapidity with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-kT algorithm. For ppcollisions, we report jet cross sections for jet resolution parameters R =0.1–0.6 over the range 20 < pT, jet < 140 GeV/c, as well as the jet cross-section ratios of different R and comparisons to two next-to-leading-order (NLO)– based theoretical predictions. For Pb-Pb collisions, we report the R=0.2 and R=0.4 jet spectra for 40 < pT, jet < 1…
