Surfactant effect on the physicochemical characteristics of cationic solid lipid nanoparticles

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) may be considered as a new approach for therapeutics for many diseases. In addition to drug delivery, their use as non-viral vectors for gene delivery can be obtained by including cationic lipids, which provide a positive surface potential that favors binding to the nucleic acids as DNA, siRNA, miRNA, etc. In fact, the addition of cationic surfactants is indispensable for obtaining nanoparticles with surface positive charge. Concanavalin A aggregation and toxicity on cell cultures

A number of neurodegenerative diseases are known to involve protein aggregation. Common mechanisms and structural properties of amyloids are thought to be involved in aggregation-related cytotoxicity. In this context we propose an experimental study on Concanavalin A (Con A) aggregation and use it as a model to study the relationship between cell toxicity and aggregation processes. 29 pages; International audience; We analyse tectonic and sedimentary field and subsurface data for the Angola onshore margin together with free-air gravity anomaly data for the offshore margin. This enables us to characterize the mode of synrift tectonism inherited from the Precambrian and its impact on the segmentation of the Angola margin. We illustrate that segmentation by the progressive transition from the Benguela transform-rifted margin segment to the oblique-rifted South Kwanza and orthogonal-rifted North Kwanza margin segments. CH-Directed Anion-π Interactions in the Crystals of Pentafluorobenzyl-Substituted Ammonium and Pyridinium Salts

Simple pentafluorobenzyl-substituted ammonium and pyridinium salts with different anions can be easily obtained by treatment of the parent amine or pyridine with the respective pentafluorobenzyl halide. Hexafluorophosphate is introduced as the anion by salt metathesis. In the case of the ammonium salt 4, water co-crystallisation seems to suppress effective anion-pi interactions of bromide with the electron-deficient aromatic system, whereas with salts 5 and 6 such interactions are observed despite the presence of water. OSL dating of Middle Weichselian age shallow basin sediments in Western Latvia, Eastern Baltic

Abstract This paper presents the results of the first attempt to date the Quaternary sediments of western Latvia in the southeast Baltic region, using luminescence. The analyses have been carried out on sandy sediments of the Jurkalne Formation that are located between upper and lower Scandinavian sourced tills. Previous publications on the origin of the Quaternary sediments in the region are reviewed and it is found that there are a wide range of explanations for their processes of formation and their age of formation.
