Post-search query modeling in federated web scenario
2014
As opposed to query reformulation oriented towards changes made by a user to specify the information need more precisely, a post-search query modeling is a technique of exploiting syntax variation of gradually extended query which depending on some other factors like e.g. the resource, database or the key word alignment, facilitates the searching process. The study into modeling query submitted to some search engines that utilize different translation semantic paradigms is motivated by a real-world's challenges to retrieve heterogeneous textual documents from the web. For a couple of language pairs, we develop a user-centered framework for imposing the Hidden Web traffic optimization. In li…
Semantic aware RSS query algebra
2010
International audience; Existing XML query algebras are not fully appropriate to retrieve RSS news items mainly due to three reasons: 1) RSS is text rich and its content is dependent on the wording and verbification of the author, thus semantic aware operators are needed; 2) news items are dynamic and consequently time oriented retrieval is needed; 3) a news item may evolve through time, or overlap with other news items and hence identifying relationships between items is also needed. In this paper, we aim to solve these issues by providing a dedicated RSS algebra based on semantic-aware operators that consider RSS characteristics. The provided operators are application domain specific and …
The Query Expansion Method "QUEXME" in an application environment
2010
International audience; The aim of the paper is to present and apply a QUery EXpansion MEthod called QUEXME while querying the Euro-Mediterranean Information System (EMWIS) on know-how in the Water sector. EMWIS provides a strategic tool for exchanging information and knowledge in the water sector between and within the Euro Mediterranean partnership countries (www.emwis.net). Information retrieval on the web or through some cooperation of information sources or some general knowledge bases is a complex process and a great challenge with the emergence of the semantic web. The aim of the query expansion method is to help and guide users to build their requests giving them some usually relate…
User session level diverse reranking of search results
2018
Most Web search diversity approaches can be categorized as Document Level Diversification (DocLD), Topic Level Diversification (TopicLD) or Term Level Diversification (TermLD). DocLD selects the relevant documents with minimal content overlap to each other. It does not take the coverage of query subtopics into account. TopicLD solves this by modeling query subtopics explicitly. However, the automatic mining of query subtopics is difficult. TermLD tries to cover as many query topic terms as possible, which reduces the task of finding a query's subtopics into finding a set of representative topic terms. In this paper, we propose a novel User Session Level Diversification (UserLD) approach bas…
