Intra- and inter-foot coordination in quiet standing: footwear and posture effects.
2012
Intra-foot coordination between center of pressure (COP) of the ball and heel of the foot in single leg standing and inter-foot coordination of the right and left foot during bipedal stance was examined as a function of postural stance (two legs, one leg, and toe postures), footwear (barefoot, different area based high heel shoes) and postural training (ballet group and regular exercising group). Young adult females performed three 20s trials in each postural condition. In general, the traditional variability measures of COPnet motion increased under the less stable postural support conditions and ballet dancers had better balance in single leg standing. Regularity analysis revealed a negat…

Nonsimultaneous maskers can strongly impair performance in an auditory intensity discrimination task. Using methods of molecular psychophysics, we quantified the extent to which (1) a masker-induced impairment of the representation of target intensity (i.e., increase in internal noise) and (2) a systematic influence of the masker intensities on the decision variable contribute to these effects. In a two-interval intensity discrimination procedure, targets were presented in quiet, and combined with forward maskers. The lateralization of the maskers relative to the targets was varied via the interaural time difference. Intensity difference limens (DLs) were strongly elevated under forward mas…
Event‐related brain potentials to change in rapidly presented acoustic stimuli in newborns
1997
Event-related brain potentials of 28 newborns to pitch change were studied during quiet sleep under stimulus conditions that typically elicit mismatch negativity in adults. Rarely occurring deviant tones of 1100 Hz (probability 12%) were embedded among repeated standard tones of 1000 Hz in an oddball-sequence with an interstimulus interval of 425 ms. Two control conditions were also employed: In the first, the 1100-Hz stimulus was presented alone without the intervening standard stimuli, and in the second the deviant stimulus had a pitch of 1300 Hz. In all conditions the infrequent stimulus elicited in most newborns a slow positive deflection peaking at a latency of 250-350 ms. The response…
Impact of Nonstationarities on Short Heart Rate Variability Recordings During Obstructive Sleep Apnea
2017
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder characterized by breathing pauses due to collapse of the upper airways. During OSA the autonomic modulation, as noninvasively assessed through heart period (HP) variability, is altered in a time-varying way even though time-varying properties of HP fluctuations are often disregarded by HP variability studies. We performed a time domain analysis computed over very short epochs corresponding to the sole OSA events explicitly accounting for HP variability nonstationarities. Length-matched epochs were extracted during OSA and quiet sleep (SLEEP) in 13 subjects suffering from OSA (11 males, age 55±11, apnea-hypopnea index 44±19). Mean HP, varianc…
Imputazione di pagamento - Datio in solutum - Quietanza
2017
The effects of instructional self-talk on quiet eye duration and golf putting performance
2017
Yonatan Sarig, 2017. The Effects of Instructional Self-Talk on Quiet Eye Duration and Performance. Faculty of Sports and Health Science. University of Jyväskylä. Master’s thesis, 63p. While the literature on the effects of instructional self-talk is comprehensive, a somewhat under-investigated subject is the underlying mechanisms of instructional self-talk. As of late, the trend has been shifted towards researching what are the motivational and attentional constructs at the base of self-talk. Potentially, one such attentional construct is the quiet eye; the final gaze fixation on a target before the execution of task-oriented movement. Since the duration of the quiet eye is found to be asso…

Cisza i milczenie w przepowiadaniu słowa Bożego
2011
Analysis of both biblical and liturgical texts leads to a conclusion that silence and quietness are a direct context of revelation of the Word of God, both in the Holy Scripture and liturgy. Through silence and quietness God prepares a man for listening and contemplation of the Word of God and the best example of this situation is Mary. Gospel is born in silence of Nazareth, Bethlehem and Golgotha. It is silence and quietness that enwraps Resurrection. Silence and quietness are a part of Gospel and therefore are also a part of preaching. Jesus’ silence in his death on the cross and in his resurrection confirms in a mysterious way Christ’s silence in the sacraments, especially in the Euchari…
