Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare, systemic, inflammatory vasculitis of large blood vessels with an unknown aetiology that more frequently affects women of childbearing age with progression to stenosis, fibrosis or thrombogenesis. In a randomized, double-blind trial, the efficacy of nonopioid analgesics on postoperative piritramide consumption was compared for pain relief during the first 24 h in patients recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Topical menthol gels are classified “topical analgesics” and are claimed to relieve minor aches and pains of the musculoskeletal system. In this study we investigate the acute effect of topical menthol on carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). We screened 645 slaughterhouse workers and recruited 10 participants with CTS and chronic pain of the arm/hand who were randomly distributed into two groups to receive topical menthol (Biofreeze) or placebo (gel with a menthol scent) during the working day and 48 hours later the other treatment (crossover design). Giant right atrial myxoma: A rare cause of cardiovascular collapse

We report the case of a patient with a giant right atrial myxoma that remained clinically silent until it almost completely obliterated the right atrium, prolapsed into the right ventricle and obstructed the tricuspid valve inflow. This case illustrates the importance of rapid surgical intervention in the setting of acute heart failure caused by tumor masses obliterating heart valves or cardiac chambers.
