This article focuses on Foucault’s and Agamben’s readings of Augustine’s account of human nature and original sin. Foucault’s analysis of Augustine’s account of sexual acts in paradise, subordinated to will and devoid of lust, highlights the way it constitutes the model for the married couple, whose sexual acts are only acceptable if diverted by the will away from desire and towards the tasks of procreation. Age-related muscle activation profiles and joint stiffness regulation in repetitive hopping

It is well documented that increasing effort during exercise is characterized by an increase in electromyographic activity of the relevant muscles. How aging influences this relationship is a matter of great interest. In the present study, nine young and 24 elderly subjects did repetitive hopping with maximal effort as well as with 50%, 65%, 75% and 90% intensities. During hopping joint kinematics were measured together with electromyographic activity (EMG) from the soleus, gastrocnemius medialis, gastrocnemius lateralis and tibialis anterior muscles. Cortical Proprioceptive Processing Is Altered by Aging

Proprioceptive perception is impaired with aging, but little is known about aging-related deterioration of proprioception at the cortical level. Corticokinematic coherence (CKC) between limb kinematic and magnetoencephalographic (MEG) signals reflects cortical processing of proprioceptive afference. We, thus, compared CKC strength to ankle movements between younger and older subjects, and examined whether CKC predicts postural stability. Tämä tutkielma käsittelee moraalisten ja esteettisten arvostelmien suhdetta taiteessa keskittyen kolmeen kohtuulliseksi teoriaksi katsottuun näkemykseen: Noël Carrollin kohtuulliseen moralismiin, Berys Gautin etikismiin sekä Andersonin ja Deanin kohtuulliseen autonomismiin. Protonation of Carbonate in Aqueous Tetraalkylammonium Salts at 25°C.

Protonation constants of carbonate were determined in tetramethylammonium chloride (Me4NClaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤4) and tetraethylammonium iodide (Et4NIaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤1) by potentiometric ([H+]-glass electrode) measurements. Dependence of protonation constants on ionic strength was taken into account by modified specific ion interaction theory (SIT) and by Pitzer models. Literature data on the protonation of carbonate in NaClaq (0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤6) were also critically analysed. Both protonation constants of carbonate follow the trend Et4NI>Me4NCl > NaCl. Evaluation of biosorbents for Cu removal from wastewater in the presence of EDTA

BACKGROUND: This paper evaluates the use of several biosorbents for Cu removal from aqueous solutions in the absence and presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The objective was to determine the applicability of the sorption process after conventional physicochemical wastewater treatment, or as primary treatment, replacing the physicochemical process. RESULTS: Fixed-bed experiments were performed at Cu influent concentrations of 2 and 20 mg dm−3 and EDTA doses between 0 and 10 mg dm−3. Koulutusosaamisen viennistä tulee kehittää yksi Suomen tulevaisuuden tärkeimmistä vientituotteista. Näin kaavailtiin vuonna 2010 julkaistussa opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön raportissa (OKM 2010). Suomessa ajatus koulutuksesta vientituotteena on suhteellisen tuore käsite ja kattaa laajan skaalan erilaisia koulutusosaamisen viennin muotoja. Monissa muissa maissa, etenkin Australiassa, Isossa-Britanniassa sekä Yhdysvalloissa, koulutuksella on tehty kauppaa yli rajojen jo vuosikymmeniä. Augustinuksen Soliloquia-teos on dialogimuodossa oleva väittely, joka on hyvä lähde latinan puhekielen fraseologialle. Työn tarkoituksena on esitellä latinankielistä keskustelua helpottavia ilmauksia. Kirkkoisä Augustinus eli myöhäisantiikin aikana, mutta oli silti klassisen latinan edustaja, kuten tässä työssä esiteltävä Soliloquia teoskin osoittaa. Työn pääpaino on kuitenkin latinan puhekielessä. Tästä Augustinuksen ja hänen järkensä välisestä vuoropuhelusta on valikoitu sopivia fraaseja, jotka on suomennettu ja lajiteltu aihepiirinsä mukaan.
