Efficient Synthesis of β-Halogeno Protected L-Alanines and Their β-Phosphonium Derivatives.
2003
Abstract Ring opening of oxazolines, prepared from l -serinates, with trimethylsilyl halides (TMSX) led to β-halogeno-N-benzoyl-α-amino esters in good to excellent yields. Quaternization of triphenylphosphine by the β-bromo or -iodo amino esters gave the corresponding β-phosphonium salts in overall yields of up to 93% and with e.e. >96%. Hydrolysis of the ester function afforded the phosphonium salt bearing an N-benzoyl-α-amino acid substituent, with partial racemization. However, the reaction of the TMSX with the carboxylic salt, prepared by saponification of the starting oxazoline ester, furnished the corresponding β-halogeno-N-benzoyl-α-amino acids in 70–95% yields. Quaternization of tri…
Unusual packing of ET molecules caused by π–π stacking interactions with TRISPHAT molecules in two [ET][TRISPHAT] salts (ET=bis(ethylenedithio)tetrat…
2007
Abstract The synthesis, structure and physical properties of two new radical salts formed with the organic donor bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF or ET) and a racemic mixture of the chiral anion (tris(tetrachlorobenzenediolato)phosphate(V)) (TRISPHAT) are reported. The structure of the salts (ET)4[TRISPHAT]4 · 3.5H2O (1) and (ET)(TRISPHAT) · CH2Cl2 · CH3CN (2) has been solved by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Unusual packings of ET molecules are obtained in the two structures. The electrical properties indicate that both compounds are insulators. This is in agreement with the isolation of the ET molecules and their complete ionization. On the other hand, the anisotropy of …
Host chemical footprints induce host sex discrimination ability in egg parasitoids
2013
Trissolcus egg parasitoids, when perceiving the chemical footprints left on a substrate by pentatomid host bugs, adopt a motivated searching behaviour characterized by longer searching time on patches were signals are present. Once in contact with host chemical footprints, Trissolcus wasps search longer on traces left by associated hosts rather than non-associated species, and, in the former case, they search longer on traces left by females than males. Based on these evidences, we hypothesized that only associated hosts induce the ability to discriminate host sex in wasps. To test this hypothesis we investigated the ability of Trissolcus basalis, T. brochymenae, and Trissolcus sp. to disti…
Adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccines-associated cerebral venous sinus thromboses: Are those adverse events related to the formation of neutrophi…
2022
In March and April 2021 several countries temporarily suspended vaccinations with adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccines. Concerns of national regulators particularly regarded very rare cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis after immunization with this type of vaccine. Until now, these adverse events were interpreted as standard hypercoagulable events, but their clinical characteristics suggest that they may actually represent unique thrombotic disorders referred to as immunothrombosis. In this paper it is speculated that it is possible that immunothrombosis after this type of vaccine results from formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in veins affected by stagnant blood …
Contribution of the gas-phase reaction between hydroxyl radical and sulfur dioxide to the sulfate aerosol over West Pacific
2021
Sulfate is among the major components of atmospheric aerosols or fine particulate matters. Aerosols loaded with sulfate result in low air quality, damage to ecosystems, and influences on climate change. Sulfate aerosols could originate from that directly emitted to the atmosphere and that produced by atmospheric physicochemical processes. The latter is generated from sulfur dioxide (SO2) via oxidation either in the gas phase reactions or in the aqueous phase. Several mechanisms of SO2 oxidation have been proposed, but the differentiation of the various mechanisms and identification of the sources remain challenging. To meet this need, a new method to estimate the contribution of the gas-pha…

Abstract. It has become possible to retrieve the global, long-term trends of trace gases that are important to atmospheric chemistry, climate, and air quality from satellite data records that span more than a decade. However, many of the satellite remote sensing techniques produce measurements that have variable sensitivity to the vertical profiles of atmospheric gases. In the case of constrained retrievals like optimal estimation, this leads to a varying amount of a priori information in the retrieval and is represented by an averaging kernel (AK). In this study, we investigate to what extent the estimation of trends from retrieved data can be biased by temporal changes of averaging kernel…
Seasonal cycles and variability of O3 and H2O in the UT/LMS during SPURT
2005
Abstract. Airborne high resolution in situ measurements of a large set of trace gases including ozone (O3) and total water (H2O) in the upper troposphere and the lowermost stratosphere (UT/LMS) have been performed above Europe within the SPURT project. With its innovative campaign concept, SPURT provides an extensive data coverage of the UT/LMS in each season within the time period between November 2001 and July 2003. Ozone volume mixing ratios in the LMS show a distinct spring maximum and autumn minimum, whereas the O3 seasonal cycle in the UT is shifted by 2 to 3 month later towards the end of the year. The more variable H2O measurements reveal a maximum during spring/summer and a minimum…
Physical Aspects of the Atmospheric Aerosol
1982
The atmospheric aerosol is a trace substance of the troposhere as well as the trace gases. Therefore a number of similiarities should be expected. As an example a common model on residence time is developed and discussed in its results. The residence time connects the content of a reservoir (size distribution for aerosols) with its source strength or removal rate. This is presented for the aerosol. In addition other physical properties of the tropospheric aerosol like optical, electrical and water uptake properties are discussed.
