Abstract The use of pulsed electric field (PEF) technology has been extensively investigated in the area of food pasteurization and gene transfection. In the recent years the technology has also shown promising application in the development of various plant- and microorganism-based added-value compounds. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy determination of trace element composition of argan oil.

A methodology based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) after microwave assisted acid digestion has been developed to determine the trace element content of Moroccan argan oil. Limit of detection values equal or lower than few mg/kg were obtained for all elements under study. To assure the accuracy of the whole procedure, recovery studies were carried out on argan oil samples spiked at different concentration levels from 10 to 200 µg/L. Chemical variability in the essential oil of Cinnamomum tamala L. leaves from India.

The chemical composition of the essential oils obtained from the fresh leaves of Cinnamomum tamala Nees et Eberm. was determined by GC and GC–MS. The yield of the oil on a dry weight basis ranged from 1.2% to 3.9% (w/w). Phenyl propanoids constitute the major portion (88.9–95.0%) of the oils. Fifty-four compounds were identified from the oils. Eugenol (91.4–41.8%) was the main compound, followed by eugenyl acetate (0.0–47.1%) and α-phellandrene (0.6–2.5%) in the analysed oils.

The thistle-infesting fruit fly Tephritis conura Loew (Diptera: Tephritidae) forms host races on the melancholy thistle, Cirsium hetewphyllum (L.) Hill (Asterales: Asteraceae) and the cabbage thistle, Cirsium olemceum (L.). Scop. Previous research indicates that the host shift occurred from C. hetewphyllum to C. oleraceum. In this paper we address whether the host shift involved physiological adaptations by studying oviposition acceptance and survival of the two host races on the derived host C. oleraceum. Variation of Terpenoids Constituents in Natural Population ofCinnamomum tamala(L.) Leaves

Abstract The leaves of Cinnamomum tamala L. (Lauraceae) were collected from seven plants occurring in seven different areas of Manipur and analyzed for their essential oil and eugenol contents using GC and GC/MS. The yield of the oil was found to vary from 1.5–5.6% (w/w), on a dry weight basis. A total of 79 compounds were identified in the oils. Eugenol was found as a major compound in the leaf oils and its concentration varied from 35.1–94.3% followed by α-phellandrene (1.0–25.4%).

Abstract During the first few minutes following fertilization a transient increase in the concentration of lactic acid occurs in the eggs of Arbacia lixula , whereas no change at all is observed in the eggs of Paracentrotus liuidus . In the eggs of Psammechinus miliaris there is a transient decrease, soon followed by a recovery so that the level of the unfertilized egg is again reached.
