Diffusion and Reactions of Hydrogen inF2-Laser-IrradiatedSiO2Glass

The diffusion and reactions of hydrogenous species generated by single-pulsed F2 laser photolysis of SiO-H bond in SiO2 glass were studied in situ between 10 and 330 K. Experimental evidence indicates that atomic hydrogen (H0) becomes mobile even at temperatures as low as approximately 30 K. A sizable number of H0 dimerize by a diffusion-limited reaction into molecular hydrogen (H2) that may migrate above approximately 200 K. Activation energies for the diffusion, inherently scattered due to the structural disorder in glass, are separated into three bands centered at approximately 0.1 eV for free H0, approximately 0.2 eV presumably for shallow-trapped H0, and approximately 0.4 eV for H2.
Features of the in-situ experiments on studying of tritium release from lithium ceramic Li2TiO3 using vacuum extraction method

Abstract The paper presents the results of reactor experiments with lithium ceramic Li2TiO3 performed at the WWR-K research reactor (Almaty, Kazakhstan). A qualitative analysis of the experimental results is presented. A new cell for the study of in situ chemical reactions using X-ray absorption spectroscopy

An in situ cell for reductive and oxidative treatments at different temperatures that allows the possibility of recording data as a function of temperature has been designed and constructed for X-ray absorption experiments at the GILDA beamline BM08 of ESRF. The cell is linked to a mass quadrupole spectrometer providing control of the reaction gases and monitoring of the products. The apparatus allows measurements to be performed both in transmission and fluorescence geometry. The cell was tested by studying the CO oxidation reaction promoted by a Pt/ceria-zirconia-supported catalyst. A new model for estimating diffuse solar radiation in Italy from clearness index and minimum air mass

The aim of this study is: (a) to propose a new simple model for estimating the monthly mean daily diffuse radiation D, MJ m−2 day−1, using as input only the clearness index Kt and minimum air mass and (b) to develop a map of diffuse solar radiation incident on a horizontal surface in Italy. This paper analyses the effects of the clearness index (Kt) and the relative optical air mass (mr) on erythemal UV irradiance (UVER). The UVER measurements were made in Valencia (Spain) from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm between June 2003 and December 2012 and (140,000 data points). Firstly, two models were used to calculate values for the erythemal ultraviolet irradiance clearness index (KtUVER) as a function of the global irradiance clearness index (Kt). Secondly, a potential regression model to measure the KtUVER as a function of the relative optical air mass was studied. A Morphological Clustering Method for daily solar radiation curves

Abstract We present a new method based on Mathematical Morphology techniques for the classification of solar radiation curves that we call MfCM. The main advantage of using MfCM as opposed to daily clearness index distributions is that it allows us to keep the dynamics of the solar radiance curves in the analysis: both cloud transitions and variability in direct radiation are simultaneously taken into account. To illustrate our proposal, we use a set of real radiation data collected in a location sited in southern Spain.

A convenient synthesis of the 2-oxo-[1,4]oxazino[3,2-e]indole ring system, an heteroanalogue of Angelicin, is reported. Our synthetic approach consisted of the annelation of the oxazine ring on the indole moiety using 4-amino-5-hydroxy indoles as building blocks. The antiproliferative activity of the new compounds either in the dark or under UVA irradiation was investigated.

It is estimated that in 2010, 1 in every 250 adults will be a childhood cancer survivor. Today, oncological surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy achieve relatively high rates of remission and long-term survival, yet are often detrimental to fertility. Quality of life is increasingly important to long-term survivors of cancer, and one of the major quality-of-life issues is the ability to produce and raise normal children.
