Electron paramagnetic resonance of doped and undoped BaFBr detected by recombination luminescence
1998
Abstract The recombination processes in the X-ray storage phosphor BaFBr:Eu2+ was investigated by measuring the microwave-induced changes in the recombination luminescence in a (high) magnetic field. Besides the resonances of the F(Br−) centre, of the VK(Br−2) centre and of the Eu2+ ground state we observed a line of a hitherto unknown hole centre. The maximum of the luminescence band in which the VK(Br−2) centre could be detected was about 400 nm. The resonance of the unknown hole centre belongs to a luminescence band peaking at about 350 nm.

Photo- and thermostimulated processes in α-Al2O3
1995
Abstract We reported on the recombination processes determined by the release of electrons from defects connected with the dosimetric 430 K thermostimulated luminescence (TSL) peak as well as with the 260 K TSL peak. These TSL peaks appear in thermochemically reduced α-Al 2 O 3 crystals containing hydrogen and emission of these TSL peaks corresponds to luminescence of the F-center. The X-ray exposure or UV excitation in the absorption band of F-centers at 6.0 eV of reduced α-Al 2 O 3 crystals doped with acceptor impurities results in the appearance of a broad anisotropic complex absorption band in the spectral region 2.5–3.5 eV and in the appearance of a predominant TSL peak at 430 K. Above…
Determination of the stress distribution at the interface metal-oxide: Numerical and theoretical considerations
2005
In this paper we give a brief presentation of the approaches we have recently developed on the oxidation of metals. Firstly, we present an analytical model based on non-equilibrium thermodynamics to describe the reaction kinetics present during the oxidation of a metal. Secondly, we present the molecular dynamics results obtained with a code specially tailored to study the oxidation and growth of an oxide film of aluminium. Our simulations present an excellent agreement with experimental results.
Numerical Determination of Intrinsic Diffusion in Fe-Cr-Al Systems
2010
The intrinsic diffusion coefficients in diffusion aluminide coatings based on Fe-30Cr were determined at 1000oC. The diffusion fluxes were given by the Nernst Planck formulae and the Darken method for multicomponent systems was applied. This paper summarizes some numerical results to determine the composition dependent diffusivities in Fe-Cr-Al systems. The method presented in this study to obtain average intrinsic diffusion coefficients is as an alternative to the Dayananda method. Our method based on empirical parameters allowed us to predict the concentration profile during the interdiffusion process.
Tl-related radiation defects in CsI:Tl
2004
Abstract Angular dependencies of the EPR spectra detected via the magnetic circular dichroism of the optical absorption (MCDA-EPR) observed in the MCDA bands at 355, 411, 425, 442, 465, 536, and 815 nm of γ- or X-irradiated CsI:Tl crystals have been investigated. The MCDA-EPR spectrum at B || [1 0 0] consists of two quartets of intense lines. The spectrum could be satisfactorily explained taking into account hyperfine (hf) interactions of unpaired electron with S= 1 2 with three Tl nuclei I ( 205 Tl , 203 Tl )= 1 2 . Therefore we propose as a model a Tl-trimer centre. The hf interactions along a [1 0 0] direction with two equivalent Tl and one single Tl were observed. As a centre model we p…
Determination of gold in two Egyptian gold ores using instrumental neutron activation analysis
2003
Abstract The applicability of thermal neutron activation analysis for the determination of gold and other elements in two Egyptian gold ores has been studied. Ten samples collected from El Sukari and Atud in the Eastern Desert-Egypt have been analyzed. The samples were properly prepared together with their standards and simultaneously irradiated in a neutron flux of the order 7×10 11 n/cm 2 s using the TRIGA research reactor at Mainz. Short-term (1 and 5 m) irradiation in the pneumatic system was also used for detection of the elements with shorter half-lives. After activation, the samples were subjected to γ -ray spectrometry using a high-purity germanium detection system and computerize…
Determination of macro, micro nutrient and trace element concentrations in Indian medicinal and vegetable leaves using instrumental neutron activatio…
1999
Abstract Leafy samples often used as medicine in the Indian Ayurvedic system and vegetables were analyzed for 20 elements (As, Ba, Br, Ca, Ce, Cr, Cs, Co, Eu, Fe, K, La, Na, Rb, Sb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Th, Zn) by employing Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). The samples were irradiated at the 100 kW TRIGA-MAINZ nuclear reactor and the induced activities were counted by gamma ray spectrometry using an efficiency calibrated high resolution High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detector. The concentration of the elements in the medicinal and vegetable leaves and their biological effects on human beings are discussed.
Self-trapped holes and recombination luminescence in LiBaF3 crystals
2001
Abstract We investigated electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) angular dependencies, recombination afterglow and thermostimulated luminescence of undoped LiBaF3 crystals, X-irradiated at low temperatures. EPR parameters of the F2− molecule oriented along the [1 1 0] direction have been obtained. Based on the value of the g-shift Δg=g⊥−gII=0.02, characteristic for the VK-centres in similar perovskites, we propose that we indeed observed the VK-centres, not the H-centres. X-irradiation below 170 K results in creation of a long-time temperature-independent afterglow due to the tunnelling recombination between close electron and hole centres. The F-type electron centres and the VK as well as pr…
An experimental approach to efficiency calibration for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of large air particulate filters
2013
Abstract A full-energy-peak efficiency (FEPE) calibration procedure for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of air particulate samples collected on large filters is described herein. The experimental results are obtained for an unconventional measurement geometry, termed a “packet-sample”. The sample is obtained from a large cellulose filter (45 cm×45 cm) used to collect air particulate samples that is resized to dimensions suitable for spectrometric measurements (6 cm×6 cm×0.7 cm). To determine the FEPEs, many standards were created, i.e., some filters containing a small amount of ThO 2 and others containing a known amount of KCl. Efficiency curves obtained through best fits to experimental d…
