Abstract Purpose Among the various dosimetric techniques used for characterizing the radiation beams used in radiation therapy, the electron spin resonance (ESR) arouses increasing interest for applications in various therapy procedures. In this work we report the ESR investigation of particular phenol compounds exposed to clinical photon and electron beams [1] . Response of GAFChromic® HD-V2 film dosimeter in 10-300 Gy dose range for radiation testing of electronic devices

The study reported in this paper aimed to investigate the response of a GAFChromic? HD-V2 film dosimeter in the dose range between 10 and 300 Gy, normally used to perform irradiation tests on electronic devices with a 60Co gamma-ray irradiator. The well-defined linearity of response in terms of absorbance as a function of absorbed dose, easiness of handling and data analysis of irradiated dosimeters, reproducibility, stability, and insensitivity to visible light and most of the environmental parameters, make HD-V2 film a flexible, inexpensive and reliable dose measurement device. Conventional Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS) can be considered as “spectroscopy in the energy domain.” It has been widely used since its discovery in 1958 [1]. Nuclear resonant forward scattering (NFS) of synchrotron radiation has been successfully employed as a time-differential technique since 1991 [2]. Another related technique, nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS) of synchrotron radiation [3], can be regarded as an extension of conventional, energy-resolved MS (in the range 10−9 to 10−7 eV) to energies on the order of molecular vibrations (in the range 10−3 to 10−1 eV). Discovery of hard phase lags in the pulsed emission of GRO J1744-28

We report on the discovery and energy dependence of hard phase lags in the 2.14 Hz pulsed profiles of GRO J1744-28. We used data from XMM-Newton and NuSTAR. We were able to well constrain the lag spectrum with respect to the softest (0.3--2.3 keV) band: the delay shows increasing lag values reaching a maximum delay of $\sim$ 12 ms, between 6 and 6.4 keV. After this maximum, the value of the hard lag drops to 7 ms, followed by a recovery to a plateau at 9 ms for energies above 8 keV. NuSTAR data confirm this trend up to 30 keV, but the measurements are statistically poorer, and therefore, less constraining. Commissioning and periodic tests of the Esteya® electronic brachytherapy system

A new electronic brachytherapy unit from Elekta, called Esteya(®), has recently been introduced to the market. As a part of the standards in radiation oncology, an acceptance testing and commissioning must be performed prior to treatment of the first patient. Differential expression and interaction with the visual G-protein transducin of centrin isoforms in mammalian photoreceptor cells.

Photoisomerization of rhodopsin activates a heterotrimeric G-protein cascade leading to closure of cGMP-gated channels and hyperpolarization of photoreceptor cells. Massive translocation of the visual G-protein transducin, Gt, between subcellular compartments contributes to long term adaptation of photoreceptor cells. Ca(2+)-triggered assembly of a centrin-transducin complex in the connecting cilium of photoreceptor cells may regulate these transducin translocations.
