Results of surgical treatment of 29 neuroblastoma patients between 1968 and 1980 are presented. 13 of these children have remained free from relapses and complaints for more than 2 years. Despite the progress in (immuno)chemotherapy and (immuno)radiotherapy the prognosis depends on the kind of surgery performed, also and especially in stages III and IV (after Evans). Among the author's own patients it became evident that both the survival rate and the survival period were increased in the prognostically unfavourable cases by subtotal resection. Dental treatment considerations in the chemotherapy patient

Cancer patients can suffer oral toxic effects secondary to antineoplastic therapy in the form of radiotherapy and/ or chemotherapy. This risk is conditioned by a range of factors, including the high cell turnover rate of the oral mucosa, the diversity and complexity of the oral microflora, and soft tissue trauma during normal oral function. Why Do We Have to Use Chemotherapy?

The use of chemotherapy (CT) in localized rectal cancer (LARC) has two aims: first, to improve the local effect of radiotherapy by giving concomitant chemoradiation and second, to decrease systemic relapses by early treatment for occult micrometastatic disease or to shrink bulky local tumours. Neoadjuvant treatment is reserved for locally advanced disease, as defined by pelvic magnetic resonance imaging, a very useful and accurate tool to identify high-risk features for local or systemic relapse [1]. We are going to address why we have to use CT in LARC.

Management of rectal cancer in France in a well-defined population.

Objective The aim of this study was to draw a picture of diagnostic assessment and patterns of care for rectal cancer in France using population-based registries data. Methods The study included a random sample of 669 cases of rectal cancers diagnosed in 2005. Results Diagnostic assessment was performed by colonoscopy in 91.4% of the cases. An abdominal computed tomography was performed in 59.4% of the cases and chest computed tomography in 47.8%. An R0 resection was performed in 65.8% of cases and an R1/R2 resection in 16.1%. Technical note: Dosimetric study of a new Co-60 source used in brachytherapy

The purpose of this study is to obtain the dosimetric parameters of a new Co-60 source used in high dose rate brachytherapy and manufactured by BEBIG (Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG GmbH, Germany). The Monte Carlo method has been used to obtain the dose rate distribution in the updated TG-43U1 formalism of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. In addition, to aid the quality control process on treatment planning systems (TPS), a two-dimensional rectangular dose rate table, coherent with the TG-43U1 dose calculation formalism, is given. These dosimetric data sets can be used as input data of the TPS calculations and to validate them.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most promi-nent modality in radiation therapy for soft-tissue anatomical districts. Monte Carlo study of the dose rate distributions for the Ir2.A85-2 and Ir2.A85-1 Ir-192 afterloading sources

The two most commonly used modalities of cancer treatment in clinical brachytherapy practice today are high dose rate (HDR) and pulsed dose rate (PDR) brachytherapy. In a clinical treatment, quality dose rate distribution data sets of the brachytherapy sources are required for each source model. The purpose of this study is to obtain detailed dose rate distributions around the new BEBIG HDR and PDR Ir-192 brachytherapy sources.
