Uranyl sorption onto birnessite: A surface complexation modeling and EXAFS study

This work investigates the mechanism of the uranyl interaction with birnessite, one of the most common layer-type MnO2 mineral at the Earth's surface, by coupling macroscopic (surface complexation experiments) and microscopic (EXAFS measurements) approaches. The sorption of uranyl on synthetic hexagonal birnessite, the low-pH birnessite form, was studied under various conditions of pH (3–6), electrolyte backgrounds (0.1 M NaClO4, NaNO3 and Na2CO3), and solid/liquid ratios (from 0.27 to 4.5 g/L). Sorption isotherms exhibit a complex form indicative of at least two types of sorption sites. Nb-90 - a potential PET nuclide: production and labeling of monoclonal antibodies

Abstract Fast progressing immuno-PET gives reasons to develop new potential medium-long and long-lived radioisotopes. One of the promising candidates is 90Nb. It has a half-life of 14.6 h, which allows visualizing and quantifying processes with medium and slow kinetics, such as tumor accumulation of antibodies and antibodies fragments or polymers and other nanoparticles. 90Nb exhibits a high positron branching of 53% and an optimal energy of β + emission of E mean=0.35 MeV only. Radioactive labeling of defined HPMA-based polymeric structures using [18F]FETos for in vivo imaging by positron emission tomography.

During the last decades polymer-based nanomedicine has turned out to be a promising tool in modern pharmaceutics. The following article describes the synthesis of well-defined random and block copolymers by RAFT polymerization with potential medical application. The polymers have been labeled with the positron-emitting nuclide fluorine-18. The polymeric structures are based on the biocompatible N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide (HPMA). Chlorine loss from polyvinylchloride under neutron irradiation

PVC samples were irradiated for 1 hour with a thermal neutron flux of Φ th =4.71·1011n·cm−2·s−1 and the chlorine lost during irradiation was measured by γ-ray spectrometry. About 15% of loss of chlorine has been observed for untreated samples while samples heated to temperatures of 60 and 80°C for one minute before irradiation have been found to loose about 8% and 3%, respectively. The results indicate an influence of the polymer structure on the release of chlorine.

Radiolabeling of DOTATOC with the long-lived positron emitter 44Sc.

Abstract The positron-emitting radionuclide 44 Sc with a half-life of 3.97 h and a β + branching of 94.3% is of potential interest for clinical PET. As so far it is available from a 44 Ti/ 44 Sc generator in Mainz, where long-lived 44 Ti decays to no-carrier-added (nca) 44 Sc. The 44 Sc is a trivalent metal cation and should be suitable for complexation with many well established bifunctional chelators conjugated to peptides or other molecular targeting vectors. Determination of zirconium traces in polymers by ICP-IDMS - a powerful and fast method for routine testing of zirconium residues in polyolefins

Zirconium trace analyses play an important role for polyolefins produced by modern catalytic processes with zirconium metallocenes. A reliable and fast routine testing method by inductively coupled plasma isotope dilution mass spectrometry (ICP-IDMS) was therefore developed, which allows the determination of zirconium in polymers down to the low ng/g level. With respect to its precision, accuracy, and time-consumption this method is suitable for routine testing of production processes. Post-Processing via Cation Exchange Cartridges: Versatile Options

New 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generators provide the positron emitter 68Ga (T½ = 67.7 min) as an easily available and relatively inexpensive source of a PET nuclide for labeling of interesting targeting vectors. However, currently available “ionic” 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generators are not necessarily optimized for the routine synthesis of 68Ga-labeled radiopharmaceuticals in a clinical environment. Post-processing of 68Ge/68Ga generators using cation exchange resins provides chemically and radiochemically pure 68Ga with 97±2% within less than 4 min, with 68Ge almost completely removed, and ready for online labeling. Positron Lifetime in Hostaphan

Positron lifetime measurements in hostaphan RNK, used for encapsulation of Na positron sources, were performed. It was found that the parameter of positron lifetime spectra in hostaphan RNK differ markedly from those for other forms of polyethylene terephthalate. The maximum penetration depth of positrons from RNK hostaphan amounts 0.42 mm. The information gained in the present study is of great importance for experimenters using hostaphan RNK for encapsulation of positron sources.
