In this work, a comparative study of the uranyl binding properties in aqueous solution of two monohydroxamic acids, the prototypical linear N-methylacetohydroxamic acid (NMAH) and the cyclic analog 1-hydroxypiperidine-2-one (PIPOH), has been carried out. The complex [UO2(PIPO)(2)(H2O)] crystallized from slightly acidic water solutions (pH < 5), and its molecular structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. Ultratrace analysis and isotope ratio measurements of long-lived radioisotopes by resonance ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS).

Resonance Ionization Mass Spectrometry (RIMS) is a sensitive and selective method for ultratrace analysis of long-lived radioisotopes and isotope ratio measurements. It provides extremely high isobaric suppression and good overall efficiency. The experimental limits of detection are as low as 10(6) atoms per sample and isotopic selectivities of 5x10(12) have been obtained. The widespread potential of RIMS, using different experimental arrangements, is demonstrated for the determination of the radiotoxic isotopes Pu-238 to Pu-244 and Sr-89/Sr-90 in various environmental samples as well as for Ca-41 in nuclear reactor components and biomedical samples.

Abstract Resonance ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS) is well-suited for isotope selective ultratrace analysis of long-lived radioactive isotopes due to its high element and isotope selectivity and good sensitivity. For the analysis of plutonium with a pulsed RIMS apparatus, a powerful, reliable and easy to handle Nd:YAG pumped titanium–sapphire laser system has been developed and combined with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Spectroscopic measurements led to an efficient three step excitation and ionization scheme for plutonium with λ1 = 420.76 nm, λ2 = 847.28 nm, and λ3 = 767.53 nm. Abstract Resonance ionisation mass spectrometry (RIMS) is a sensitive and selective method for isotopically resolved ultratrace analysis of long-lived radionuclides. For the routine analysis of plutonium three titanium–sapphire lasers pumped by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser in combination with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer are used. The detection limit of this system is as low as 106–107 atoms for the plutonium isotopes 238Pu to 244Pu. One major challenge in nanomaterial analysis, especially in complex environmental matrices, is the unambiguous differentiation between natural and engineered nanomaterials (ENMs). SummaryThe arsenic content of cows' milk consumed in Spain was determined. A procedure using dry ashing hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry was developed for the purpose. Experimental conditions for the destruction of organic matter were established and an interference study was carried out. The method developed has a detection limit of 0·1 ng/g, a relative SD of 5%, and a recovery (mean ± CSI) of 100 ± 4%. The accuracy of the method was checked by analysis of a certified sample of IAEA milk powder (mean ± CSI: certified, 4·85 ± 0·32 ng/g; found, 5·04 ± 0·81 ng/g). Abstract The aim of this research was to develop and optimize a procedure for determination of REEs in xenotime and monazite samples collected from Bangka Island, which were compared to Standard Monazite (71 AG) of Bureau of Analyzed Samples, London. ICP-OES method was used for the determination. The samples were dried and sterilized by heating for a week at 110 °C, before digesting with nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, using a microwave-assisted digestion system. After a careful line selection, at the detection limits for all REEs in the ng/mL the REEs were reliably obtained at the 0.09 – 38% level.

It became a promising biological target in the diagnosis and therapy of PSMA-expressing cancer diseases. Although there are several radiolabeled PSMA inhibitors available, the search for new compounds with improved pharmacokinetic properties and simplified synthesis is still ongoing. Abstract In this work analyses of the energy released per unit mass in phenolic compound exposed to neutron beams were performed with the aim of predicting the increase in dose achievable by addition of gadolinium (Gd) inside the pellets. In particular, Monte Carlo (MC) simulations were carried out for IRGANOX® 1076 phenolic compound irradiated with neutron beams with different energy spectra at various depths inside a water phantom.
