Il saggio indaga i rapporti culturali ed estetici tra Scelsi e la cultura francese e ne rintraccia un elemento fondamentale per la comprensione della produzione artistica del compositore: dal primo contatto giovanile, in cui la conoscenza delle avanguardie culturali francesi apre il giovane compositore a stimolanti esperienze artistiche, al rapporto con Henri Michaux, che viene qui indagato analizzando opere dello scrittore e del compositore, fino poi ai legami con le generazioni più giovani di compositori, come Grisey e Murail, che individuano nelle tecniche compositive di Scelsi i prodromi di un nuovo trattamento del suono.

Analysis of neural elements in head-mutant Drosophila embryos suggests segmental origin of the optic lobes.

We describe the development of 20 sensory organs in the embryonic Drosophila head, which give rise to 7 sensory nerves of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), and 4 ganglia of the stomatogastric nervous system (SNS). Using these neural elements and the optic lobes as well as expression domains of the segment polarity gene engrailed in the wild-type head of Drosophila embryos as markers we examined the phenotype of different mutants which lack various and distinct portions of the embryonic head. In the mutants, distinct neural elements and engrailed expression domains, serving as segmental markers, are deleted. These mutants also affect the optic lobes to various degrees. AbstractSubdivision of the neuroectoderm into discrete gene expression domains is essential for the correct specification of neural stem cells (neuroblasts) during central nervous system development. Here, we extend our knowledge on dorsoventral (DV) patterning of the Drosophila brain and uncover novel genetic interactions that control expression of the evolutionary conserved homeobox genes ventral nervous system defective (vnd), intermediate neuroblasts defective (ind), and muscle segment homeobox (msh). Brain-derived neurotrophic factor correlates with functional and cognitive impairment in non-disabled older individuals.

We used a complete battery of geriatric and psychometric tests to evaluate whether plasma-borne brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a master molecule in neuroplasticity, is associated with the severity of functional and cognitive impairment in non-disabled older individuals. There was a significant positive correlation between BDNF plasma concentrations and the Barthel index, a measurement of the ability of individuals to perform the activities of daily living (p=0.03) and the concentration subcategory measured with the mini mental state examination (MMSE) test (p = 0.01). Modelling Airlines Competition on Fares and Frequencies of Service by Bi-level Optimization

Abstract The research aims to understand how airlines make operative decisions on fares and frequencies of service in a competitive envi-ronment. A game approach has been developed to model the airlines’ choices in a duopolistic market. In particular, the short haul market for intercity linkages has been investigated. In this segment the air mode is in competition with other ground modes (i.e. road and high speed rail). A bi-level optimization program has been realized. The variables of model are: fares and frequencies of airlines.
