SAFETY PROBLEMS AND GLOBAL COMFORT IN RAILWAYS OPERATIONAL MANAGMENT

2008

In the planning process of a railway intervention and in its operational management, it needs to analyse carefully the relations between the different classes of variables constituting the complex system “vehicle-infrastructure-environment” to find the most suitable actions in optimisation the travelling comfort and safety, with respect for the ecosystem compatibilities. The problem can be tackled, in a systematic way, according to set theory and vector analysis, in a hyperspace Âd of d-dimension up to determining a characteristic global comfort vector that can be combined with each alternatives of intervention in the transport network examined. From this point of view, after the proper ach…

Parthenolide sensitizes hepatocellular carcinoma cells to trail by inducing the expression of death receptors through inhibition of STAT3 activation

2011

This article shows that HepG2, Hep3B, and SK-Hep1 cells, three lines of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, are resistant to apoptosis induced by tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL). Parthenolide, a sesquiterpene lactone found in European feverfew, has been shown to exert both anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities. This article demonstrates that co-treatment with parthenolide and TRAIL-induced apoptosis with synergistic interactions in the three lines of HCC cells. In order to explain these effects we ascertained that parthenolide increased either at protein or mRNA level the total content of death receptors TRAIL-R1 and -R2 as well as their surfac…

Image et parole : le vitrail de Saint Lubin à Chartres : sens et fonction de ses images à la fin du XIIe siècle

2019

The enigma of saint Lubin stained glass window at Chartres, showing a wine story in the middle of the saint’s life, can be resolved by a symbolic interpretation of it’s images, if paying regard to the medieval mental schemes : the central Eucharistic mystery of the wine enables the young Lubin to achieve sainthood, through his own vocation of consecrated (the learned canon of XIIth century appearing under the VIth century monk), priest and bishop, Good Sheperd dispensing divine gifts. The unusual presence of small human figures at the outer framework of the stained glass window emphasises the important role to be played by the laity in the Eucharistic mysteries. It takes part, with the intr…

Conjunctival Sac Fluid Contains Elevated Levels of Soluble TRAIL: Implications for the Anti-Tumoral Surveillance of the Anterior Surface of the Eye

2008

Little is known on the ability of different epithelia to release soluble TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and the relevance of TRAIL secretion by epithelial cells is still incompletely understood. On these bases, we have measured the concentration of soluble TRAIL by ELISA in the conjunctival sac fluid. It was the highest ever detected in a biological fluid (mean value of 26,800 pg/ml), being approximately 20-fold greater than that found in human saliva and >200-fold greater than that detected in human serum. On the other hand, osteoprotegerin, the soluble decoy receptor of TRAIL, was almost undetectable in the conjunctival sac fluid. Of note, the levels of soluble TRAIL measur…

Techno-economical inspection of high-speed Internet connection for trains

2008

Some attractive service scenarios for Railways' Intelligent Transport Systems (RITS) in three different user segments, that is, passengers, freight companies and train operator's in-house customers, are presented. The case study covers the analysis of customer needs and techno-economic evaluations. The analysis indicates that Flash-OFDM technology provides promising pre-stage solution for the train connections in Finland. Also, the WiMAX-based high-speed Internet access for passengers may be profitable in the most heavily operated railway leg in Finland. The sensitivity analysis shows that the most crucial parameters for the case are `User Share', `Average Revenue per User' and `WiMAX Cell …

The Rail Quality Index as an Indicator of the “Global Comfort” in Optimizing Safety, Quality and Efficiency in Railway Rails

2012

AbstractThe proposed model uses the stochastic dynamic programming and in particular Markov decision processes applied to the Rail Quality Index (RQI - Italian Indice di Qualità del Binario, IQB).By performing the integrated analysis of the classes of variables which characterize the overall service quality (in terms of comfort and safety), the proposed mathematical approach allows to find the solutions to the decision-making process in function of the probability of deterioration of the state variables of the infrastructure over time and of the flow of available resources.

STUDIO DEI MECCANISMI DI MORTE CELLULARI INDOTTI DAL CANNABINOIDE SINTETICO WIN IN CELLULE TUMORALI IN COLTURA

2014
