Molecular specification of cell lines in the embryo of Platynereis (Annelida)
1992
In this study we describe the site and moment of histospecific differentiation in developmental stages of the annelid Platynereis dumerilii by use of biochemical markers. The monoclonal antibody (mab) OI7 and uncloned hybridoma supernatants (pAb's) OI8, OI10, OI46 and OI69 recognize neural antigens that appear asynchronously during development. By an enzymatic test, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was found specific for nervous tissue as well. The patterns of neural structures labelled by antibodies differ, however, from those revealed by AChE staining. Experimental inhibition of transcription (with actinomycin D) and of translation (using puromycin) demonstrate that the expression of histospec…
Impact Assessment of Skidding Extraction: Effects on Physical and Chemical Properties of Forest Soils and on Maple Seedling Growing along the Skid Tr…
2019
Several studies investigated soil disturbances caused on skid trails by forest logging. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about the severity and the distance of disturbances along both sides from the trails. The aims of this study were: i) to investigate the changes in physical and chemical properties of soil along the sides of skidding trails

Combining conventional chemotherapy and γδ T cell-based immunotherapy to target cancer-initiating cells.
2013
According to common beliefs, conventional anticancer chemotherapy is deleterious for the immune system. We have recently provided in vitro evidence indicating that conventional chemotherapy may potentiate, rather than impair, the long-term efficacy of γδ T cell-based anticancer immunotherapy.

The frail patient with heart disease: An emerging and challenging issue
2018
Frailty and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are two common conditions that may affect clinical outcomes in older people. Epidemiological studies suggest that CVD is one of the most important contributor to the development of frailty in the aged patient, and the latter can therefore be considered a potential CVD risk factor. Moreover, traditional CVD risk factors are also known to be important for developing frailty. This close relationship between CVD and frailty is due, in part, to the shared etiological factors, which include low-grade inflammation, cellular senescence, and endocrine dysregulation. Therefore, the early detection of frailty is important in the management of patients with CVD …
The effects of motor skill and physical activity interventions on preschoolers' cognitive and academic skills: A systematic review
2022
The present systematic review aimed to investigate the methodological quality and the effects of fundamental motor skills and physical activity interventions on cognitive and academic skills in typically developing 3 to 7-year-old children. The review was conducted and reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. A literature search was carried out in April 2020 using seven electronic databases. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed with the Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) Quality Assessment Tool. Cohen's d effect size calculations and post hoc power analyses were conducted for the in…
Participant characteristics associated with the effects of a physical and cognitive training program on executive functions
2022
Background: Physical and cognitive interventions have been shown to induce positive effects on older adults’ executive functioning. However, since participants with different background characteristics may respond differently to such interventions, we investigated whether training effects on executive functions were associated with sex, training compliance, and age. We also investigated if change in global cognition was associated with physical and cognitive training intervention-induced changes in executive functions. Methods: Exploratory data from a randomized controlled trial were analyzed. Participants were 70–85-year-old men and women who received a 12-month physical (PT) or physical a…
The Association between Cognitive Impairment and Diabetic Foot Care: Role of Neuropathy and Glycated Hemoglobin
2020
Diabetes mellitus is associated with impairment in cognitive functions which can complicate adherence to self-care behaviors. We evaluated the incidence of cognitive impairment in patients with diabetes mellitus to determine the strength of the association between diabetic foot (a complication that occurs in about 10% of diabetic patients), adherence to the clinician&rsquo
