Analysis of 55 cases of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor in an Indian population and review of literature

2021

Background This study reviews the demographic, clinical and radiographic features of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor(AOT) diagnosed in an Indian population over 50 years and also evaluate and compare follicular AOT(F-AOT) and extra-follicular AOT(EF-AOT). Material and Methods 55 diagnosed cases of AOT from 1971-2020 were studied retrospectively. The data regarding the age, sex, location, variant of AOT, duration, clinical features, radiographic appearance, treatment and recurrence were collected and analysed. Results Of the 722 odontogenic tumors diagnosed, 7.6% were AOTs with higher prevalence of extra-follicular (67.3%) than follicular (32.7%) variant. All the tumors were intraosseous with …

Somatosensory profiles in subgroups of patients with myogenic temporomandibular disorders and Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

2009

Some patients with myofascial pain from temporomandibular disorders (TMD) report pain in extra-trigeminal body regions. Our aim was to distinguish TMD as regional musculoskeletal pain syndrome (n=23) from a widespread pain syndrome (FMS; n=18) based on patients' tender point scores, pain drawings and quantitative sensory testing (QST) profiles. Referenced to 18 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects significant group differences for cold, pressure and pinprick pain thresholds, suprathreshold pinprick sensitivity and mechanical detection thresholds were found. Pain sensitivity in TMD patients ranged between those of FMS patients and healthy controls. The group of TMD patients was inhomogen…

Anatomic site evaluation of the palatal bone for temporary orthodontic anchorage devices.

2008

: Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the micromorphologic characteristics of the palatal bone from an implantologic standpoint. Materials and Methods: The material consisted of tissue blocks of autopsy material from 22 subjects (18 males, three females) between 18 and 63 years of age. The specimens comprised the anterior median palatal region from 5 to 10 mm behind the incisive foramen. They were prepared in the transversal plane according to ground thin-section technology. The midpalatal area as well as an area of 3 mm bilateral to the midline were assessed, and a classification of quantitative palatal bone availability was developed. Results: The findings could be divi…

Bone quality in the midpalate for temporary anchorage devices.

2009

Objective The aim of the present study was to quantitatively assess the bone quality of the palatal bone from an implantologic standpoint. Material and methods The material consisted of palatal tissue blocks of autopsy material from 22 subjects (19 male, three female), between 18 and 63 years of age. The specimens comprised the anterior part of median palate (APMP) from about 7 mm behind the incisive foramen (first premolar regions), the middle part of median palate (MPMP, second premolar region), and the posterior part of the median palate (PPMP, first molar region). They were prepared in the transversal plane using ground-thin-section technology. The midpalatal areas of the different part…

Morphine versus oxycodone in pancreatic cancer pain: a randomized controlled study.

2010

Objective: According to experimental findings, oxycodone (OX) could have some advantages over morphine (MO) in clinical models of visceral pain. It was hypothesized that OX could have some advantages over MO in terms of efficacy and dose escalation in pancreatic cancer pain. Methods: Sixty patients with pancreatic cancer with a pain intensity rating of 4/10 who required opioids were included in the study. Patients were randomized to receive 30mg/d of sustained release oral MO or sustained release oral OX (20mg/d). Opioid doses were increased according to the clinical needs. Daily doses of opioids, pain and symptom intensity were recorded at admission (T0) and at weekly intervals for the sub…

Remodeling of the antegonial angle region in the human mandible : a panoramic radiographic cross-sectional study

2009

Objectives: This study analyzed changes in the antegonial region in relation to age, gender, and dental status. Study design: A total of one thousand patients (five hundred males and five hundred females), who were prescribed panoramic radiograph for various purposes were included in the study. The patients were categorized according to age, gender and dentition status. Panoramic radiographs were traced and antegonial angles and depths were measured. Results: A trend of decrease in the antegonial angle and increase in antegonial depth with age was observed in both males and females. Furthermore there were differences between right and left side antegonial angle and depth, with left side ang…

Effects of botulinum toxin type A on vibration induced facilitation of motor evoked potentials in spasmodic torticollis.

2004

It has not been clarified if botulinum toxin (BTX) injection leads to muscle spindle dysfunction in man. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that BTX application reduces the facilitation of a magnetic evoked response (MEP).We used the vibration induced facilitation of an MEP of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) as a surrogate marker for muscle spindle function in 20 healthy subjects and 10 patients with idiopathic rotational torticollis in whom BTX was injected unilaterally. The increase in the amplitude and area of the MEPs in the clinically not affected and untreated SCM of the patients did not differ significantly from the controls. At baseline, the vibration induced increase in th…

Interaction of genetic vulnerability to schizophrenia and Communication Deviance of adoptive parents associated with MMPI schizophrenia vulnerability…

2008

The aim of this study was to establish possible genotype-environment interaction in high-risk and low-risk adoptees' vulnerability to schizophrenia. The study population consisted of a subgroup of 41 adoptive families with a high genetic risk adoptee and 58 families with a low genetic risk adoptee from the Finnish Adoptive Family Study of Schizophrenia. Communication style was assessed based on the Communication Deviance (CD) of the adoptive parents, and the adoptees' vulnerability indicators were measured with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Taken separately, only the genetic liability to schizophrenia, but not the communication style of the adoptive parents, was si…

Gene-environment interaction as a predictor of early adjustment in first episode psychosis.

2017

Abstract Background This study aims to explore the gene-environment interaction hypothesis applied to pre-symptomatic neurodevelopmental phenotypes of first episode psychosis (FEP), that is, genetic factors might increase vulnerability to the effects of environmental adverse conditions occurring at later stages of development. Methods We constructed a schematic ‘two-hit’ model, with Val/Val homozygosity for the catechol- O -methyltransferase ( COMT ) Val158Met polymorphism as the ‘first hit’ and history of obstetric complications and parental socioeconomic status as ‘second hits’. Early adjustment, measured using the Premorbid Adjustment Scale, was considered the main outcome. The study pop…
