Laser control in open molecular systems: STIRAP and Optimal Control

We examine the effect of dissipation on the laser control of a process that transforms a state into a superposed state. We consider a two-dimensional double well of a single potential energy surface. In the context of reactivity, the objective of the control is the localization in a given well, for instance the creation of an enantiomeric form whereas for quantum gates, this control corresponds to one of the transformation of the Hadamard gate. The environment is either modelled by coupling few harmonic oscillators (up to five) to the system or by an effective interaction with an Ohmic bath. Inelastic neutron scattering study of proton dynamics in Ca(OH)2 at 20 K

Abstract Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectra of Ca(OH) 2 at 20 K are presented from 30 to 4000 cm −1 for a powder sample, from 30 to 12000 cm −1 for an oriented single-crystal. INS band splitting due to the lattice density-of-states is observed. Polarization effects reveal the orientation of atomic displacements for each mode and a new band assignment scheme is proposed. For the single-crystal, the v OH mode and overtones are observed. This oscillator shows only moderate anharmonicity. Spectrum simulation reveals that INS spectral intensities are not consistent with simple normal coordinates and harmonic force-fields for Ca(OH) 2 entities. A solvent-directed stereoselective and electrocatalytic synthesis of diisoeugenol.

A stereoselective and electrocatalytic coupling reaction of isoeugenol has been reported for the first time in a 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP)/boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode system. This particular C-C bond formation and diastereoselectivity is driven by a solvate interaction between the radical species and another isoeugenol molecule. Due to an electrocatalytic cycle, only understoichiometric amounts of charge are necessary. Since electric current is directly employed as the oxidant, the reaction is metal and reagent-free. The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations

International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes. Switching and redox isomerism in first-row transition metal complexes containing redox active Schiff base ligands.

International audience; The reversible redox isomerisms in first row transition metal complexes of the type ML2 were studied. The six ML2 complexes (M = Mn(III) (), Fe(II) (), Co(III) (), Ni(II) (), Cu(II) () and Zn(II) ()) were synthesized with a redox active Schiff base ligand [2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenylamino)-4-chlorophenol] (H3L) presenting different oxidation states from -2 to 0 (L(2-), L(-) and L(0)). A concise route to MK-4482 (EIDD-2801) from cytidine.

A two-step route to MK-4482 (EIDD-2801, 1) was developed consisting of an esterification and hydroxamination of cytidine. The selective acylation and direct amination eliminate the need for protecting and activating groups and proceed in overall yield of 75%, a significant advancement over the reported yield of 17%. The step count is reduced from five transformations to two, and expensive uridine is replaced with the more available cytidine.

The substituent effect of π-electron delocalization in N-methylamino-nitropyridine derivatives: crystal structure and DFT calculations

AbstractThe crystal and molecular structures of 3-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine, 5-(N-methylamino)-2-nitropyridine and 2-(N-methylamino)-5-nitropyridine have been characterized by X-ray diffraction. To perform conformational analysis, the geometries of the compounds as well as their conformers and rotamers were optimized at the B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,3pd) level. The resulting data were used to analyze the π-electron delocalization effect in relation to the methylamino group rotation in ortho-, meta- and para-substitution positions. Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) methods have been developed for the characterisation of neutral [2×2] metallogrids derived fromdiimine, dihydrazone and diacylhydrazone ligands. Such grids may be protonated in solution to give cationic species but in most cases these are labile, so that rather delicate conditions are required for observation of the intact metallogrids as monoprotonated derivatives in the gas phase.
