GraphoGame – a catalyst for multi-level promotion of literacy in diverse contexts

2015

GraphoGame (GG) is originally a technology-based intervention method for supporting children with reading difficulties. It is now known that children who face problems in reading acquisition have difficulties in learning to differentiate and manipulate speech sounds and consequently, in connecting these sounds to corresponding letters. GG was developed to provide intensive training in matching speech sounds and larger units of speech to their written counterparts. GG has been shown to benefit children with reading difficulties and the game is now available for all Finnish school children for literacy support. Presently millions of children in Africa fail to learn to read despite years of pr…

Job Satisfaction of Fitness Professionals in Portugal: A Comparative Study of Gender, Age, Professional Experience, Professional Title, and Education…

2021

This research characterizes and compares the job satisfaction of fitness professionals in Portugal between genders, ages, professional experience, professional title, and educational qualifications. A total of 401 fitness professionals answered the online questionnaire Job Satisfaction Scale, which has 16 factors rated on a Likert scale with seven levels. The statistical analysis comprises descriptive and statistical tests to compare the results of two (t-test) or more (ANOVA) groups. Overall, the results demonstrated that fitness professionals were moderately satisfied with their work. The lower degrees of job satisfaction were concerning salary, opportunities for promotion, and stability …

The leisure construction in adolescents and this influence for development of criminal careers

2013

Positive Psychological Capital as a Predictor of Satisfaction With the Fly-In Fly-Out Model

2021

The flexibility of the markets and international agreements lure a growing number of companies to expand their business beyond frontiers in search for new markets and a bigger business network. Workers, initially called expatriates, become keystones to implant and promote the so desired expansion into the international markets. From the concept of flexpatriate present in the literature in general, we adapted the concept of FLY-in FLY-out (FIFO) to comprehend the organizational flexpatriates. In the midst of the Positive Psychology theories, Luthans et al. underline that workers are the psychological capital of the companies. Therefore, the development of the Positive Psychological Capital b…

HEMATOLOGICAL VARIABILITY ANALYSIS AFTER ROAD MARATHON VS ULTRATRAIL. PREDICTIVE FACTORS

2020

The practice of long- and medium-distance races has exponentially increased the number of participants in recent years. They are carried out under extreme conditions that cause both biochemical and anthropometric changes in athletes and, in addition, have serious risks associated, such as dehydration, thermal disorders, or hypoglycemia. Knowledge regarding alterations at hematological level after this type of effort is limited. The objectives of this pre-post analytical descriptive observational study were: to describe and compare hematological values in amateur runners pre and post road marathon and ultratrail races, and to compare the hematological parameters between the groups in the two…

Association of a single nucleotide polymorphism of RANK gene with blood pressure in Spanish women

2020

Abstract In addition to governing key functions in bone metabolism and the immune system, the RANK/RANKL/OPG system plays a role in the vascular system, particularly in vascular calcification and atherosclerosis. Given that these 2 phenotypes are considered a major cause of high blood pressure (BP), in this study we analyzed the association of SNPs in RANK and OPG genes with blood pressure. An observational study was conducted of 2 SNPs in the RANK gene (rs884205 and rs78326403) and 1 in the OPG gene (rs4876869) with systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in a cohort of 695 women. Data analysis revealed a statistically significant association between the SNP rs884205 and BP press…

Abstract 3420: High-sensitivity Troponin T Improves Cardiovascular Risk Prediction In Patients With Cerebral Ischemia

2012

Background Patients with a cerebral ischemic event are at high risk of recurrent ischemia and other cardiovascular events. Clinical scores are recommended to predict cardiovascular risk in patients with cerebral ischemia to inform secondary preventive measures. Biomarkers may improve risk prediction beyond clinical scores and therefore secondary prevention. Methods Within the observational Find-AF trial (ISRCTN 46104198), 197 patients aged >18 years with cerebral ischemia and without atrial fibrillation had blood sampled at baseline and completed 1-year follow-up. Predictive value of 5 novel cardiovascular biomarkers for a combined vascular endpoint (acute coronary syndrome, stroke, car…

Lemierre syndrome: Current evidence and rationale of the Bacteria-Associated Thrombosis, Thrombophlebitis and LEmierre syndrome (BATTLE) registry.

2020

Abstract Lemierre syndrome is a rare but potentially fatal condition characterized by septic thrombophlebitis of the head and neck district, preferentially affecting adolescents and young adults and manifesting as a complication of a local bacterial infection – typically, a pharyngotonsillitis or an abscess. It is historically associated with the Gram-negative anaerobic rod Fusobacterium necrophorum and with thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein. However, its definition has never been firmly established, and its spectrum within the continuum of bacteria-associated thrombophlebitis may be larger than what presumed so far. Recent evidence suggests that its prognosis remains serious ev…

Transfusion Need at Diagnosis or Its Development During the First Year of Diagnosis in Primary Myelofibrosis: Effect On Survival and Correlation with…

2009

Abstract Abstract 1909 Poster Board I-932 Background: The International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS) for primary myelofibrosis (PMF) utilizes five independent predictors of inferior survival; of these, a hemoglobin level <10 g/dL has the highest impact on survival (Cervantes et al. Blood 2009;113:2895). In the current study, we examined the additional prognostic impact of transfusion need at diagnosis or becoming transfusion-dependent in the first year of diagnosis. These events were also correlated with JAK2 or TET2 mutational status. Methods: Patients were selected from the Mayo Clinic PMF database based on availability of bone marrow histology and IPSS-relevant information at diag…

Head-to-head comparison of contemporary heart failure risk scores.

2021

Altres ajuts: acords transformatius de la UAB Aims: Several heart failure (HF) web-based risk scores are currently used in clinical practice. Currently, we lack head-to-head comparison of the accuracy of risk scores. This study aimed to assess correlation and mortality prediction performance of Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC-HF) risk score, which includes clinical variables + medications; Seattle Heart Failure Model (SHFM), which includes clinical variables + treatments + analytes; PARADIGM Risk of Events and Death in the Contemporary Treatment of Heart Failure (PREDICT-HF) and Barcelona Bio-Heart Failure (BCN-Bio-HF) risk calculator, which also include biomarke…
