Intra-specific variability and biological relevance of P3N-PIPO protein length in potyviruses
2013
Background:Pipo was recently described as a new ORF encoded within the genome of the Potyviridae family members (PNAS 105:5897-5902, 2008). It is embedded within the P3 cistron and is translated in the +2 reading frame relative to the potyviral long ORF as the P3N-PIPO fusion protein. In this work, we first collected pipo nucleotide sequences available for different isolates of 48 Potyvirus species. Second, to determine the biological implications of variation in pipo length, we measured infectivity, viral accumulation, cell-to-cell and systemic movements for two Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) variants with pipo alleles of different length in three different susceptible host species, and tested…
Relaxant and antiadrenergic effects of ranolazine in human saphenous vein.
2019
Abstract OBJECTIVES Ranolazine improves vascular function in animal models. We evaluate the effects of ranolazine on vascular function and adrenergic response in human saphenous vein. METHODS Rings from 53 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting were mounted in organ baths. Concentration–response curves to ranolazine were constructed in rings precontracted with phenylephrine, endothelin-1, vasopressin, KCl and the thromboxane A2 analogue U-46619. In rings precontracted with phenylephrine, relaxation to ranolazine was tested in the absence and presence of endothelial factors inhibitors, K+ channel blockers and verapamil. The effects of ranolazine on frequency–response and concent…
Tra Elimi, Punici e Greci: le origini di Drepanon
2020
The early history of the ancient Drepanon (or Drepana) is not clear at all even today. The mythological tales, which mention that locality as an important stop and destination of Aeneas’ voyage, do not associate the origins of Drepanon with any ethnos, or Greek heroes and founders. This depends on the fact that the peninsula where Drepanon was founded in 260/59 BC (when the Carthaginian Hamilcar moved the population from Eryx to the coast) was not a proper city developing an urban network, but a trade area (emporion) which has left no archaeological traces. Even if the city developed as an urban centre only later, this does not mean, however, that the place was not particularly important. O…
Non-immersion theorem for a class of hyperbolic manifolds
1998
Abstract It is proved that a non-simply-connected complete hyperbolic manifold cannot be isometrically immersed in a Euclidean space with a flat normal connection. In particular, the complete hyperbolic manifold M n with π 1 ( M ) ≠ 0 cannot be isometrically immersed in R 2 n − 1 .
The horospherical Gauss-Bonnet type theorem in hyperbolic space
2006
We introduce the notion horospherical curvatures of hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space and show that totally umbilic hypersurfaces with vanishing cur- vatures are only horospheres. We also show that the Gauss-Bonnet type theorem holds for the horospherical Gauss-Kronecker curvature of a closed orientable even dimensional hypersurface in hyperbolic space. + (i1) by using the model in Minkowski space. We introduced the notion of hyperbolic Gauss indicatrices slightly modified the definition of hyperbolic Gauss maps. The notion of hyperbolic indicatrices is independent of the choice of the model of hyperbolic space. Using the hyperbolic Gauss indicatrix, we defined the principal hyperbolic curv…
Transintestinal secretion of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin: in vitro and in situ inhibition studies.
2003
The influence of the secretion process on the absorption of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin has been evaluated by means of inhibition studies. Two well known P-glycoprotein inhibitors (cyclosporine, verapamil), a mixed inhibitor of P-glycoprotein and the organic cation transporter OCT1 (quinidine) and a well established MRP substrate (p-aminohipuric acid) have been selected in order to distinguish the possible carriers implicated. An in situ rat gut perfusion model and CACO-2 permeability studies are used. Both methods suggest the involvement of several types of efflux transporters for every fluoroquinolone. The relevance of the secretory pathway depends on the intrinsic perme…
