Synthesis, characterization of diorganotin(IV) complexes of N-(2-hydroxyarylidene)aminoacetic acid and antitumour screening in vivo in ehrlich ascite…
2001
Some new diorganotin(IV) complexes have been prepared by reacting potassium N-(2-hydroxyarylidene)aminoacetate with R2SnCl2(R = Me,nBu,Ph). The complexes have been characterized by 1H,13C,119Sn NMR, IR and 119mSn Mössbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analysis. In the solid state, the complexes possess penta- and hexa-coordinated tin centres. The hexa-coordinated tin complexes were found to dissociate in solution, giving rise to penta-coordinated species as revealed by 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. Antitumour screening in vivo of the complexes L4snPh2,L4SnPh2· Ph3SnCl and L4SntBU2·t Bu2SnCl2 (L4 = N-(2-hydroxyacetophenone)aminoacetate) is also reported. Copyright © 2001 …
Homoleptic heavy alkaline Earth and europium triazenides.
2009
The sigma-bond metathesis reaction between PhSiH(3) and the heteroleptic metal pentafluorophenyl compounds [Dmp(Tph)N(3)MC(6)F(5)(thf)(n)] (Dmp = 2,6-Mes(2)C(6)H(3) with Mes = 2,4,6-Me(3)C(6)H(2); Tph = 2-TripC(6)H(4) with Trip = 2,4,6-(i)Pr(3)C(6)H(2); n = 1, 2; M = Sr, Ba, Eu) supported by sterically crowded, biphenyl- and terphenyl-substituented triazenido ligands afforded the first homoleptic stontium, barium, and europium triazenides [M{N(3)Dmp(Tph)}(2)] {M = Sr (2), Ba (4), Eu (5)}. Crystallization of 2 from an n-heptane/1,2-dimethoxyethane mixture gave the complex [Sr{N(3)Dmp(Tph)}(2)(dme)] (3). All new compounds have been characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy (not 5), ele…
Multioctave midinfrared supercontinuum generation in suspended-core chalcogenide fibers
2014
An As2S3 fiber-based supercontinuum source that covers 3500 nm, extending from near visible to the midinfrared, is successfully reported by using a 200-fs-pulsed pump with nJ-level energy at 2.5 μm. The main features of our fiber-based source are two-fold. On the one hand, a low-loss As2S3 microstructured optical fiber has been fabricated, with typical attenuation below 2 dB/m in the 1-4 μm wavelength range. On the other hand, a 20-mm-long microstructured fiber sample is sufficient to enable a spectral broadening, spreading from 0.6 to 4.1 μm in a 40 dB dynamic range.

Consensus statement of the Italian society of pediatric allergy and immunology for the pragmatic management of children and adolescents with allergic…
2020
AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has surprised the entire population. The world has had to face an unprecedented pandemic. Only, Spanish flu had similar disastrous consequences. As a result, drastic measures (lockdown) have been adopted worldwide. Healthcare service has been overwhelmed by the extraordinary influx of patients, often requiring high intensity of care. Mortality has been associated with severe comorbidities, including chronic diseases. Patients with frailty were, therefore, the victim of the SARS-COV-2 infection. Allergy and asthma are the most prevalent chronic disorders in children and adolescents, so they need careful attention and, if necessary, an adaptation of their regular…

Geochemical processes assessed by Rare Earth Elements fractionation at "Laguna Verde" acidic-sulphate crater lake (Azufral volcano, Colombia)
2017
Abstract The geochemical behaviour of major elements, Fe, Al, Mn, and Rare Earth Elements (REE) was investigated in the “Laguna Verde” acidic crater lake of Azufral volcano (Colombia). The cold lake water (T close to 10 °C) is sulphate-dominated, due to absorption and oxidation of H2S (pH 2.1–2.7, Eh 196–260 mV), and Na-enriched (Total Dissolved Solids 0.79 g L−1). The total amount of REE dissolved in the lake ranges from 3.3 to 9.1 ppb. The REE patterns normalized to the local rocks show a Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE) depletion quite constant in the 15 samples. Similar patterns were already found in the acidic sulphate springs of Nevado del Ruiz volcano-hydrothermal system, caused by t…
Near infrared light to promote synaptic resilience to Alzheimer’s Disease neuropathology
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative dementia with no curative therapeutic options. One of the earliest impairments in AD triggering cognitive decline is the synaptic dysfunction induced by the selective targeting and interruption of the synaptic region by the small oligomeric form of amyloid beta (Aβ). Recently, the co-presence of Aβ oligomers (Aβo) and tau oligomers (tau-o) at the synapses has been suggested to exacerbate this dysfunction. Therefore, the development of therapeutics aimed at protecting the synapses from the toxic binding of both proteins at the synapses can preserve synaptic health and cognitive function. With this goal in mind, the present study …
Decoding vibrational states of Concanavalin A amyloid fibrils.
2015
International audience; Amyloid and amyloid-like fibrils are a general class of protein aggregates and represent a central topic in life sciences for their involvement in several neurodegenerative disorders and their unique mechanical and supramolecular morphological properties. Both their biological role and their physical properties, including their high mechanical stability and thermodynamic inertia, are related to the structural arrangement of proteins in the aggregates at molecular level. Significant variations may exist in the supramolecular organization of the commonly termed cross-β structure that constitutes the amyloid core. In this context, a fine knowledge of the structural deta…
Concanavalin A aggregation and toxicity on cell cultures
2009
A number of neurodegenerative diseases are known to involve protein aggregation. Common mechanisms and structural properties of amyloids are thought to be involved in aggregation-related cytotoxicity. In this context we propose an experimental study on Concanavalin A (Con A) aggregation and use it as a model to study the relationship between cell toxicity and aggregation processes. Depending on solution conditions, Con A aggregation has been monitored by static and dynamic light scattering, Thioflavin T emission, and FTIR absorption. The morphology of different aggregate species was verified by means of Atomic Force Microscopy and Confocal Microscopy. During the aggregation pathway the nati…
