The $\Lambda$CDM model provides a good fit to a large span of cosmological data but harbors areas of phenomenology. With the improvement of the number and the accuracy of observations, discrepancies among key cosmological parameters of the model have emerged. The most statistically significant tension is the $4-6\sigma$ disagreement between predictions of the Hubble constant $H_0$ by early time probes with $\Lambda$CDM model, and a number of late time, model-independent determinations of $H_0$ from local measurements of distances and redshifts. Lifestyle counseling to reduce body weight and cardiometabolic risk factors among truck and bus drivers – a randomized controlled trial

Objectives We conducted a randomized trial among overweight long-distance drivers to study the effects of structured lifestyle counseling on body weight and cardiometabolic risk factors. Methods Men with waist circumference > 100 cm were randomized into a lifestyle counseling (LIFE, N=55) and a reference (REF, N=58) group. The LIFE group participated in monthly counseling on nutrition, physical activity, and sleep for 12 months aiming at 10% weight loss. After 12 months, the REF group participated in 3-month counseling. Assessments took place at 0, 12, and 24 months. Between-group differences in changes were analyzed by generalized linear modeling. Transition from self tilt to object tilt during maintained lateral tilt in parabolic flight.

Abstract 19 young healthy subjects were subjected to parabolic rollercoaster flight. A horizontal luminous line was seen by the subjects in a headfixed goggle device. During the hypergravic phases of parabolic flight the luminous line seemed to rotate into and during the hypogravic phase against the direction of static head tilt. Ocular counter rotation and activity of the neck position receptors cannot explain these subjective rotations. We conclude that information from the otolith system, converging with visual information within the brain, dislocated the headfixed visual target line. Coupled cluster calculations of the vertical excitation energies of tetracyanoethylene

The vertical spectrum of tetracyanoethylene was studied using coupled cluster theory. It was found that the lowest singlet-singlet transition, which corresponds to the excitation from the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) excitation, occurs at 5.16 eV in the gas phase and is lowered approximately 0.1 eV due to solvent effects in acetonitrile. A parallel study on the ethene spectrum showed the quality of the basis sets and methods used, by placing the V state 7.92 eV above the ground state and giving an energy for the 0-0 transition of 5.42 eV to be compared with the experimental value of 5.50 eV.

Dynamical formation and stability of fermion-boson stars

Gravitationally bound structures composed by fermions and scalar particles known as fermion-boson stars are regular and static configurations obtained by solving the coupled Einstein-Klein-Gordon-Euler (EKGE) system. In this work, we discuss one possible scenario through which these fermion-boson stars may form by solving numerically the EKGE system under the simplifying assumption of spherical symmetry. Our initial configurations assume an already existing neutron star surrounded by an accreting cloud of a massive and complex scalar field. Numerical Study of the semiclassical limit of the Davey-Stewartson II equations

We present the first detailed numerical study of the semiclassical limit of the Davey–Stewartson II equations both for the focusing and the defocusing variant. We concentrate on rapidly decreasing initial data with a single hump. The formal limit of these equations for vanishing semiclassical parameter , the semiclassical equations, is numerically integrated up to the formation of a shock. The use of parallelized algorithms allows one to determine the critical time tc and the critical solution for these 2 + 1-dimensional shocks. Among all metazoan phyla, sponges are known to produce the largest number of bioactive compounds. However, until now, only one compound, arabinofuranosyladenine, has been approved for application in humans. One major obstacle is the limited availability of larger quantities of defined sponge starting material. Les paradoxes de l'emploi féminin sur le pourtour méditérranéen

Cette invitation originale à un voyage sur le pourtour de la Méditerranée permet de mieux appréhender les raisons de la colère des jeunes. L'analyse comparative dans quatorze pays révèle les paradoxes de l'emploi féminin dans des contextes sociaux, démographiques, culturels et économiques, plus ou moins distants, à la lumière de données statistiques les plus récentes. Ces contrées reflètent une image pessimiste : en écho d'une segmentation du marché du travail, le chômage frappe particulièrement la jeunesse, les itinéraires des jeunes femmes ressemblent à un dédale d'incertitudes et de contradictions. Pourtant, certains pays leur offrent davantage d'opportunités.
