Microporous volume and external surface of Y zeolites accessible to p-xylene and m-xylene

Abstract Isothermal adsorption of p-xylene and m-xylene on NaY, KY and BaY zeolites was studied by thermogravimetry at 25°C. Adsorption isotherms showed type H4 hysteresis associated with a xylenes adsorption process activated by the pressure. Experimental data were analysed with the t-method to distinguish the amounts of xylene adsorbed in the α-cages and on the external surface of crystallites. Results were compared with those previously achieved by calorimetry. Whatever may be the isomer and the Y zeolite, the adsorption capacity of α-cages at 25 °C is equal to 3.5 molecule α−1. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation is known to have various effects on the immune system of fish, but the effect on the actual disease resistance has remained largely unknown. Here we studied the effect of UVB on the resistance of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) against a bacterium Yersinia ruckeri, the causative agent of enteric red mouth disease, and a trematode parasite Diplostomum spathaceum, which causes cataracts in fish. The fish were exposed to UVB irradiation seven times in 14 days, and inoculated intraperitoneally with Y. ruckeri on day 5 after the first irradiation. The optical properties of point defects are frequently the most important parameter in applications of glassy silica. They are relatively easy to measure on standard spectrophotometers and yield direct information on the quality of practical silica-based devices, e.g., attenuation of fiber-optic waveguides or ultraviolet (UV)- transmitting windows. However, optical measurements alone usually do not give enough information to establish the origin and atomic structure of the respective point defects.

International audience; The monodromy of torus bundles associated with completely integrable systems can be computed using geometric techniques (constructing homology cycles) or analytic arguments (computing discontinuities of abelian integrals). In this article, we give a general approach to the computation of monodromy that resembles the analytical one, reducing the problem to the computation of residues of polar 1-forms. We apply our technique to three celebrated examples of systems with monodromy (the champagne bottle, the spherical pendulum, the hydrogen atom) and to the case of non-degenerate focus-focus singularities, re-obtaining the classical results.
