Polyfurfuryl alcohol composite as adsorbent of polychlorinated biphenyls and pyrethroid insecticides

Abstract Composites from furfuryl alcohol and silica gel were prepared in dichloromethane using trifluoroacetic acid as catalyst and characterized by means of thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms. The polymer content in the composites ranged between 19.5% and 32.9%. The capability to adsorb polychlorinated biphenyls and pyrethroid insecticides was tested for composite samples containing different percentages of polymer. Pyrethroids are retained almost totally by composites containing around 24–33% of polymer, while recovery of PCBs close to 80% is obtained with all the composites. A functionalized dialkylperylene and a modified terrylenetetracarboxdiimide (TTCDI) were joined by a hexanediyl spacer. The resulting bichromophoric molecule 1 (R = 4-tert-butylphenoxy) is a suitable model system for donor–acceptor energy transfer studies at the single-molecule level.

The influence of substitution on the absorption and Luminescence spectra of oligo(phenylenevinylene)s has been studied using distyrylbenzene (DSB) as a model compound. The degree, character, and pattern of substitution was varied systematically, altering the electronic properties of the DSB, the wavelength of the emitted light could be tuned over a range of 100 nm. The syntheses of 6b—h were performed by twofold Wittig Horner-olefinations of bisphoshonates 1a, b with substituted benzaldehydes 2a—i, 6ivia Heck-reaction of the dibromosulfonylbenzene 3, 6k by Siegrist-reaction of 4 with N-phenylbenzaldimine and the Knoevenagel-reaction of benzyl cyanide with 5 led to 6l.

Publisher Summary DNA damage induced by solar radiation in mammalian cells consists largely of two types of modification: pyrimidine dimers and oxidative modifications. Pyrimidine dimmers that can be subdivided into cyclobutane pyrimidine dimmers, (CPDs) and (6-4) photoproducts are the characteristic and most abundant modifications after direct excitation of DNA, although they can also be formed indirectly by energy transfer from other excited molecules such as carbonyl compounds. Pelargonium graveolens należy do rodziny Geraniaceae. Roślina ta jest aromatycznym, owłosionym krzewem, sięgającym 1,2 metra wysokości i osiągającym 1 m szerokości. Jej liście są mocno powcinane, miękkie w dotyku i wydzielają intensywny zapach, natomiast kwiaty są małe, zwykle różowe, zebrane w baldachy. Le situazioni di impatto e la dinamica di ciclista e pedone sono le informazioni fondamentali per lo sviluppo di soluzioni efficaci per migliorare la protezione del pedone e del ciclista in caso di urto con autovetture. La casistica degli incidenti a Palermo, negli ultimi anni, avvenuti su strade urbane (84%) che coinvolgono adolescenti (6,4%), mostra che i ciclisti hanno in genere una posizione di impatto superiore rispetto al pedone, con una quota maggiore di lesioni per urti nella zona del parabrezza. Šajā darbā tiek sniegta informācija par nogulumu uzkrāšanās apjomiem un sastāvu 12 Latvijas ezeros. Ezeru virsējie nogulumi iegūti, izmantojot gravitācijas paraugošanas metodiku šī darba ietvaros, kā arī apkopojot un analizējot iepriekš ievākto nogulumu sastāvu un zinātniskajās publikācijās pieejamo informāciju.
