Population structure, life cycle, and trophic niche of the glacial relict amphipod, Gammaracanthus lacustris, in a large boreal lake

Ecology of the glacial relict macrocrustacean Gammaracanthus lacustris, a rare inhabitant of deep Fennoscandian lakes, is poorly understood. We studied the life cycle and trophic position of this cold‐stenothermic amphipod in Lake Paasivesi, eastern Finland. The study is based on intensive sampling and analyses of fatty acid composition as well as stable carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) isotope ratios. Both day and night, the G. lacustris population occurred at depths below 25 m at temperatures 40 mm and live up to 4 years. Itämeren harmaahylkeiden (Halichoerus grypus) yksilömäärien kasvu viime vuosikymmeninä on aiheuttanut ristiriitoja ammattikalastajien ja hylkeiden välille. Hylkeiden on todettu muun muassa vahingoittavan pyydyksiä ja syövän kalastajille arvokasta saalista myös pyydyksistä, kuten lohta (Salmo salar), sekä karkottavan kalaparvia kalastusalueiden ulkopuolelle. Toisaalta harmaahylkeille uhkana on hukkuminen pyydyksiin sekä lisääntynyt häirintä kalastajien ja meriliikenteen toimesta. Näiden ristiriitojen myötä kiinnostus hylkeiden ravinnosta on lisääntynyt. Itämeren alueen hyljekannat ovat hiljalleen toipuneet 1900-luvun liikapyynnin ja ympäristömyrkkyjen aiheuttamasta kannanromahduksesta. Hallien ja itämerennorppien kannat ovat olleet nousussa lähes koko 2000-luvun ajan. Hylkeiden määrän lisääntymisen myötä myös ammattikalastajien hyljevahingot ovat lisääntyneet. Purpose Fruit and vegetable intake (FV) is insufficient in industrialized nations and there is excess of discretionary food choices (DC; foods high in fat, sugar, and salt). Long-haul truck drivers are considered a particularly at-risk group given the limited food choices and normatively reinforced eating habits at truck rest-stops. Self-efficacy and normative support are key determinants of eating behavior yet the processes underlying their effects on behavior are not well understood. L’analyse est empirique et réalisée via des estimations sur un panel de quatorze pays sur la période 1987-2007, et quand cela est possible sur des donnés sectorielles (treize secteurs manufacturiers et cinq secteurs des services et réseaux). ''Dual'' gravity: Using spatial econometrics to control for multilateral resistance.

We propose a quantity-based `dual' version of the gravity equation that yields an estimating equation with both cross-sectional interdependence and spatially lagged error terms. Such an equation can be concisely estimated using spatial econometric techniques. We illustrate this methodology by applying it to the Canada-U.S. data set used previously, among others, by Anderson and van Wincoop (2003) and Feenstra (2002, 2004). Our key result is to show that controlling directly for spatial interdependence across trade flows, as suggested by theory, significantly reduces border effects because it captures `multilateral resistance'. Are Energy Market Integrations a Green Light for FDI?

This paper studies the effect of energy market integration (EMI) on foreign direct investment (FDI). EMIs diminish energy uncertainty and price volatility in the host country and affect FDI through two channels: first, by harmonizing energy prices and, second, by reducing price dispersion. FDI may, as a result, increase both within and outside the EMI area, through energy stability mechanisms and price mechanisms, respectively. An empirical application on a global dataset including bilateral FDI data, during 2003-2012, using the gravity equation, shows that the integration of Portugal and Spain's electricity market in 2007 increased the amount of FDI's participants.
