X-ray tomographic method for measuring three-dimensional deformation and water content distribution in swelling clays
2015
A non-invasive method for simultaneous measurement of the 3D displacement field and the water content distribution of a wetted solid material is developed. The method is based on comparison of X-ray tomographic images of a material sample in the reference state and in the wetted and deformed state. The deformation and water content analyses were successfully compared with numerical results for a cylindrical rubber test sample under axial compression, and with gravimetric results from axially wetted and sliced cylindrical bentonite samples, respectively. The methods were applied in a 4D study (three spatial dimensions and time) of wetting and deformation of purified swelling bentonite doped …
The mitogen-activated protein kinase p38 pathway is conserved in metazoans: Cloning and activation of p38 of the SAPK2 subfamily from the sponge Sube…
2000
Our recent data suggest that during auto- and allograft recognition in sponges (Porifera), cytokines are differentially expressed. Since the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction modulates the synthesis and release of cytokines, we intended to identify one key molecule of this pathway. Therefore, a cDNA from the marine sponge Suberites domuncula encoding the MAPK was isolated and analyzed. Its encoded protein is 366 amino acids long (calculated Mr 42 209), has a TGY dual phosphorylation motif in protein kinase subdomain VIII and displays highest overall similarity to the mammalian p38 stress activated protein kinase (SAPK2), one subfamily of MAPKs. The sponge protein w…

Räjähdysaineita sisältävien maanäytteiden esikäsittelymenetelmien vertailu
2012
Tämän johdosta räjähdysaineita sisältävien ympäristönäytteiden analysointiin on kehitetty monia menetelmiä, jotta koko ekosysteemiä kohtaavat vahingot voitaisiin tunnistaa ja suorittaa kunnostustoimenpiteitä kontaminoituneilla alueilla.
Aerolāzerskenēšanas datu izmantošana lineārās erozijas formu identificēšanā un to ģeogrāfiskā izvietojuma analīzē Gaujas Nacionālā parka teritorijā
2015
Maģistra darba tēma ir aerolāzerskenēšanas datu izmantošana lineārā erozijas tīkla identificēšanā un ģeogrāfiskā izvietojuma analīzē Gaujas Nacionālā parka teritorijā. Darba mērķis ir veikt lineārās erozijas formu identificēšanu un to ģeogrāfiskā izvietojuma analīzi Gaujas Nacionālā parka teritorijā, izmantojot aerolāzerskenēšanas datus un to apstrādes iespējas ĢIS vidē. Darba pirmajā nodaļā sniegts literatūras ieskats par gravu eroziju tipiem un to veidošanos. Otrā nodaļā apkopota literatūra par pētījuma teritoriju. Trešajā nodaļā izklāstītas metodes, bet ceturtajā nodaļā apkopoti rezultāti. Analizējot aerolāzerskenēšanas datu analīzi iegūtie rezultāti parāda, ka gravu blīvums Gaujas Nacio…
The emergence of liminal cyberspace : challenges for the ontological work in cybersecurity
2022
This philosophy-oriented paper examines cybersecurity and its ontological work in relation to spaces which are created by conventional perimeter security model and Zero Trust model. We argue that security works by a code of inclusion and exclusion, e.g., an individual user seeking access is either included or excluded in relation to the system. Therefore, cybersecurity divides the space through employing the code of inclusion/exclusion which directly affects the agency of users. We examine how the growing complexity of network environment makes information and cybersecurity to struggle with the simplicity of the inclusion/exclusion code. The simplified bifurcation is held by maintaining a s…
Does differential iron supply to algae affect Daphnia life history? : An ionome-wide study
2019
The availability of iron (Fe) varies considerably among diet items, as well as ecosystems. Availability of Fe has also changed due to anthropogenic environmental changes in oceanic as well as inland ecosystems. We know little about its role in the nutrition of ecologically important consumers, particularly in inland ecosystems. Physiological studies in several taxa indicate marked effects of dietary Fe on oogenesis. We predicted that differential Fe supply to algae will impact algal Fe concentration with consequences on the life history of the freshwater grazer, Daphnia magna. We found that algal Fe concentration increased with Fe supply, but did not affect algal growth, indicating that the…
2013
The study reports on a chariot tomb excavated in 1985 at Les Craises in Molinons (Yonne). Set in an adventitious position in the midst of a monument with three quadrangular enclosures, the grave was of an adult of undetermined sex. Despite later pillaging, the goods found in this aristocratic tomb permit a dating to the second quarter of the 5th century BC, and an unusual cultural attribution, on the frontier in the Parisian Basin between the Jura culture to the south and the Marne-Moselle culture to the north.
