Abstract. Despite the availability of both commercial and open-source software, an ideal tool for digital rock physics analysis for accurate automatic image analysis at ambient computational performance is difficult to pinpoint. More often, image segmentation is driven manually, where the performance remains limited to two phases. Discrepancies due to artefacts cause inaccuracies in image analysis. To overcome these problems, we have developed CobWeb 1.0, which is automated and explicitly tailored for accurate greyscale (multiphase) image segmentation using unsupervised and supervised machine learning techniques. In this study, we demonstrate image segmentation using unsupervised machine le…
GHOST: GRADIENT HISTOGRAM OF SPECTRAL TEXTURE
2021
International audience; A gradient-based texture feature for hyperspectral image is formulated with straightforward application to grayscale and color images. Processed in full band, GHOST is expressed as a four-dimensional probability density distribution encompassing joint metrological assessment of spectral and spatial properties. Its performance is close to Opponent Band Local Binary Pattern (OBLBP) in HyTexiLa texture classification (91 %-99 % accuracy) with feature size 0.2 % of OBLBP's.
Gene Expression Profile of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Innately Resistant to Imatinib
2007
Background. Most chronic myeloid leukemia patients who receive imatinib as first line-terapy will obtain, after 12 months treatment, complete cytogenetic and molecular response . However several cases will not achieve molecular response, but their innate mechanism(s) of resistance remain poorly understood. We tried to explore the molecular events involved in innate resistance in CML. Study design. Five patients who were molecular “non responder” and seven “major” responder were investigated by using the expression profile of a set of 380 genes. Multiple testing procedure (MTP), Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM), Empirical Bayes Analysis of Microarrays (EBAM), False Discovery Rate (…
Ultraviolet radiation protection by a beach umbrella.
2010
A beach umbrella intercepts all direct UV irradiance, but only part of the diffuse component. Using a simple sky view factor model, we have determined the fraction of the hemispheric diffuse irradiance that is not intercepted by the umbrella. Assuming a sensor at the surface and close to the center of the umbrella, isotropic diffuse irradiance and for an umbrella of 80 cm radius and 100 cm high, our results show that approximately 34% of the incident horizontal irradiance is not intercepted by the umbrella. These results agree with irradiance measurements conducted with and without the umbrella. The model is next extended to examine receipt of UV radiation by a human figure in a vertical po…
A hardware skin-segmentation IP for vision based smart ADAS through an FPGA prototyping
2017
International audience; In this paper we presents a platform based design approach for fast HW/SW embedded smart Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) design and prototyping. Then, we share our experience in designing and prototyping a HW/SW vision based smart embedded system as an ADAS that helps to increase the safety of car's drivers. We present a physical prototype of the vision ADAS based on a Zynq FPGA. The system detects the fatigue state of the driver by monitoring the eyes closure and generates a real-time alert. A new HW/SW codesign skin segmentation step to locate the eyes/face is proposed. Our presented new approach migrates the skin segmentation step from processing system (S…
Molecular structures and vibrations of m-methylaniline in the S0 and S1 states studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy and ab initio calcu…
2000
Abstract The UV fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of a jet-cooled m-methylaniline have been obtained for the S1←S0 transition, in which some of the bands have been observed for the first time. The main spectral bands have been assigned by comparison with those of other relevant substituted benzenes. It was found that the spectra exhibit an important feature which is the internal rotation of the methyl group in the electronic ground and excited states. Ab initio calculations at MP2/6-31G* and CIS/6-31G* show that the optimized structure of m-methylaniline in the ground state is not planar with the amino group having sp3 hybridation-like character due to the existence…
EFFECTS OF SENSITIZED AND UNSENSITIZED LONGWAVE U.V.-IRRADIATION ON THE SOLUTION PROPERTIES OF DNA
1971
— Two types of photoreactions occur in DNA irradiated in aqueous systems with longwave u.v.-light (Λ > 295 nm), namely, (a) thymine dimerization, and (b) single- and double-strand breakage of the sugar phosphate backbone; these two reactions are unrelated. The presence of acetophenone as a photosensitizer caused an increase in dimerization by a factor of 16, and an increase in single-strand breaks by a factor of 4. The number of thymine dimers per single-strand break is about 100 in the sensitized and 25 in the unsensitized reaction. The alteration of the radius of gyration of DNA molecules is that expected by the degradation observed. At the same time the change in hyperchromicity is very …
Heterocyclic rearrangements in constrained media. A zeolite-directed photorearrangement of 1,2,4-oxadiazoles
2005
[reaction: see text] The first intrazeolite-photoinduced rearrangement of a five-membered heterocycle is reported. A completely different behavior compared to solution irradiations has been observed. The zeolite's role in directing the photoreaction of 3-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles toward the formation of the corresponding 1,3,4-oxadiazoles in a ring contraction-ringexpansion route is discussed.
High speed X-ray analysis of plant enzymes at room temperature.
2013
X-ray measurements at room temperature (295 K) deliver high quality data sets with unprecedented speed (2 min), as shown for crystallized raucaffricine-O-β-D-glucosidase (RG), its mutant RG-Glu186Gln and several ligand complexes of the enzyme which participates in alkaloid biosynthesis in the plant Rauvolfia. The data obtained are compared with data sets measured under typical cryo conditions (100K). Under both conditions, density maps are highly comparable and favor the described protocol for room temperature measurements, potentially paving the way for future crystallographic studies capturing biosynthetic pathway intermediates.
Stilbene Content of MatureVitis viniferaBerries in Response to UV-C Elicitation
2001
A method using HPLC analysis has been used to compare the level of resveratrol and its derivatives, piceid, pterostilbene and epsilon-viniferin, in grapevine berries of three Vitis vinifera varieties. The concentration of these compounds has been evaluated in healthy and Botrytis cinerea infected grape clusters, both in natural vineyard conditions and in response to UV elicitation.
