ABSTRACT. We report a technique for the solution of an intraoperative complication occurred during penile prosthetic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A 70-year-old patient underwent open radical retropubic prostatectomy in 2004 due to a prostate cancer - Gleason 6 (3+3) pT2N0M0. The erectile dysfunction subsequently observed was not responsive to oral or intracavernosal drug administration, so a malleable penile implant surgery was recommended. RESULTS. Analysis of serine proteases from marine sponges by 2-D zymography.

Proteolytic activities isolated from the marine demosponges Geodia cydonium and Suberites domuncula were analyzed by 2-D zymography, a technique that combines IEF and zymography. After purification, a 200 kDa proteolytically active protein band was obtained from G. cydonium when analyzed in gelatin copolymerized 1-D zymograms. The enzymatic activity was quantified using alpha-N-benzoyl-D-arginine p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) as a substrate and corresponded to a serine protease. The protease activity was resistant to urea and SDS. Candidiasis has become a prevalent infection in different types of immunocompromised patients. The cell wall of Candida albicans plays important functions during the host-fungus interactions. Cell wall (surface) proteins of C. albicans are major elicitors of host immune responses during candidiasis, and represent candidates for vaccine development. Groups of mice were vaccinated subcutaneously with a beta-mercaptoethanol (beta-ME) extract from C. albicans containing cell wall proteins. Vaccinated mice were then infected with a lethal dose of C. albicans. Violence and/or delinquency in women have been masked to some extent by society. Thus, the main goal of this work is to deeply analyse the published works on these matters, in order to understand this phenomenon from a neurobiological perspective. Firstly, the theory of the cycle of violence as a facilitating mechanism of violence in women will be analysed, with a special emphasis on neuroanatomical correlates. Subsequently, the relation between drug consumption and violence in women will be explained.
