The impact of the farming, abandonment and agricultural intensification on loss of water and soil. The example of the northern slopes of the Serra Gr…
2012
Land abandonment throughout the twentieth century led to an intense landscape transformation in the mountain areas of the Iberian Peninsula. In some cases, and after 50 years of abandonment, agriculture returned with the development of commercial farms and the intensification of the agrarian activities. In the Easter Iberian Peninsula, following the abandonment of olive groves, vineyards and cereals during the 50's, has been in the past two decades the expansion of intensive citrus production on sloping terrain. Geomorphological transects and simulated rainfall experiments have quantified the impact of traditional rainfed cultivation of the 50's, abandonment, and the intensification of farm…
Abelian integrals and limit cycles
2006
Abstract The paper deals with generic perturbations from a Hamiltonian planar vector field and more precisely with the number and bifurcation pattern of the limit cycles. In this paper we show that near a 2-saddle cycle, the number of limit cycles produced in unfoldings with one unbroken connection, can exceed the number of zeros of the related Abelian integral, even if the latter represents a stable elementary catastrophe. We however also show that in general, finite codimension of the Abelian integral leads to a finite upper bound on the local cyclicity. In the treatment, we introduce the notion of simple asymptotic scale deformation.
Alien limit cycles near a Hamiltonian 2-saddle cycle
2005
Abstract It is known that perturbations from a Hamiltonian 2-saddle cycle Γ can produce limit cycles that are not covered by the Abelian integral, even when it is generic. These limit cycles are called alien limit cycles. This phenomenon cannot appear in the case that Γ is a periodic orbit, a non-degenerate singularity, or a saddle loop. In this Note, we present a way to study this phenomenon in a particular unfolding of a Hamiltonian 2-saddle cycle, keeping one connection unbroken at the bifurcation. To cite this article: M. Modelling temperature-dependent dynamics of single and mixed infections in a plant virus
2022
Multiple viral infection is an important issue in health and agriculture with strong impacts on society and the economy. Several investigations have dealt with the population dynamics of viruses with different dynamic properties, focusing on strain competition during multiple infections and the effects on viruses’ hosts. Recent interest has been on how multiple infections respond to abiotic factors such as temperature (T). This is especially important in the case of plant pathogens, whose dynamics could be affected significantly by global warming. However, few mathematical models incorporate the effect of T on parasite fitness, especially in mixed infections. Here, we investigate simple mat…
Impact of monitoring on detection of arrhythmia recurrences in the ESC-EHRA EORP atrial fibrillation ablation long-term registry
2019
Abstract Aims Monitoring of patients after ablation had wide variations in the ESC-EHRA atrial fibrillation ablation long-term (AFA-LT) registry. We aimed to compare four different monitoring strategies after catheter AF ablation. Methods and results The ESC-EHRA AFA-LT registry included 3593 patients who underwent ablation. Arrhythmia monitoring during follow-up was performed by 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), Holter ECG, trans-telephonic ECG monitoring (TTMON), or an implanted cardiac monitoring (ICM) system. Patients were selected to a given monitoring group according to the most extensive ECG tool used in each of them. Comparison of the probability of freedom from recurrences was perfo…
Interaction of Cd(II) and Ni(II) terpyridine complexes with model polynucleotides: A multidisciplinary approach
2016
Two metal complexes of 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (terpy), i.e. Cd(terpy)Cl2 and Ni(terpy)Cl2·3H2O, have been prepared and extensively characterized. The interaction of Cd(terpy)Cl2 with synthetic DNA models, poly(dA-dT)·poly(dA-dT) (polyAT) and poly(dG-dC)·poly(dG-dC) (polyGC), has been studied by CD, fluorescence and UV-vis electronic absorption spectroscopy at several metal/polynucleotide–phosphate ratios and for different NaCl concentrations. All the experimental results indicate an intercalative mechanism of interaction. The optimized geometry of the cadmium complex intercalated between the sixth and seventh base pairs of (AT) and (GC) dodecanucleotide duplexes, obtained by quantum mechan…
María Magdalena. Continuidad y variación en la cultura audiovisual (1897-2014)
2017
University incubator as catalyst of resources for academic spin-offs. The case of ARCA Consortium
2013
Today we can observe an increasing proliferation of new academic spin-off initiatives aimed to transfer knowledge from the university to the market. Due to their strategic role in enhancing the development of technological innovation, academic spin-offs can attain high levels of social performance and consonance with their environment. At the same time, they must overcome many difficulties if they are to achieve a high level of financial performance and growth. They are often considered to be mere vehicles for the transmission of knowledge, implying that their entrepreneurial potential is not fully exploited. According to the Resource Based View (RBV) the competitive disadvantage of an acad…
