Prenatal Exposure to Polybrominated Flame Retardants and Fetal Growth in the INMA Cohort (Spain)

Our aim was to investigate the relation between PBDEs and fetal growth or newborn anthropometry in a Spanish cohort (2003-2008). PBDE congeners (BDE-47, -99, -153, -154, and -209) were determined in serum of 670 mothers at gestational week 12 and in 534 umbilical cord samples. Abdominal circumference (AC), estimated fetal weight (EFW), femur length (FL), and biparietal diameter (BPD) during gestation were measured by ultrasounds. At birth, weight (BW), head circumference (HC), and length (BL) were also measured. In pregnancy a decrease in fibrinolytic activity, which is due to an increase in plasminogen activator inhibitor activity and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 and type 2, has been described. Because the placenta is a source of both type 1 and type 2 plasminogen activator inhibitor, we have studied them and other fibrinolytic parameters in a group of normotensive pregnant women with intrauterine fetal growth retardation and in two groups of women with preeclampsia, with or without intrauterine growth retardation. Exploring the affordances of Numbas for mathematical learning: a case study

International audience; The computer-based assessment system Numbas offers new learning possibilities in mathematics education by means of formative feedback. The paper proposes a theoretical framework that captures the affordances emerging from students' interactions with Numbas at the technological, mathematical, and assessment level. The aim of the paper is to explore the affordances that arise from these levels using the theoretical framework as a lens. Based on the results, preliminary conclusions and recommendations for future work are proposed.

Constant Hierarchic Patterns of Physical Functioning Across Seven Populations in Five Countries

This research was aimed at identifying critical steps in the decline in physical function that often parallels aging. Six basic and nine instrumental activities of daily living (ADLs) were classified into four domains of disability characterized by specific underlying physical impairment. The hierarchical order of this classification was verified in two random samples representative of the older home-dwelling population. The concordance level of disability and results of performance-based measures of physical function were also tested. However, recently E2 was shown to be synthesized by muscle and its systemic and intramuscular hormone levels are unequal. The objective of the study was to examine the association between intramuscular steroid hormones and muscle characteristics in premenopausal women (n = 8) and in postmenopausal monozygotic twin sister pairs (n = 16 co-twins from eight pairs) discordant for the use of E2-based hormone replacement. Resumen: El adecuado tratamiento de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) incluye la alimentación saludable y el ejercicio (150 min/semana) como pilares básicos. Para el tratamiento farmacológico, la metformina es el fármaco de elección inicial, salvo contraindicación o intolerancia; en caso de mal control, se dispone de 8 familias terapéuticas (6 orales y 2 inyectables) como posibles combinaciones. Se presenta un algoritmo y unas recomendaciones para el tratamiento de la DM2.
