The essay argues that the rule of recognition, as it has been conceived by H. L. A. Hart, is either a redundant, and hence mostly useless, concept, or it is a concept with limited explanatory potential - in either case, at best a concept whose scope is much narrower, in contemporary legal systems, than the one envisaged by Hart. The essay intends retrace the development of the relationship between secular reason and religious language in Habermas's thought. To this end, the essay focuses on the theory of translation, and on complementary learning. The first part will provide a comparison between the conception of modernity and the progressive promotion – on both a cognitive and normative level – of the religious sense. The second part advances an interpretation of the public sphere conceived as a secular space for the cooperation between reason and religion. Lastly, the article highlights the problematic excess of the religious sense by considering the rationalization of its semantic contents.

Towards a unified process model for graphemic buffer disorder and deep dysgraphia

Models based on the competitive queuing (CQ) approach can explain many of the effects on dysgraphic patients’ spelling attributed to disruption of the “graphemic output buffer”. Situating such a model in the wider spelling system, however, raises the question of what happens when input to the buffer (e.g., from a semantic system) is degraded while the buffer remains intact. We present a preliminary exploration of predictions following from the CQ approach. Neuroimaging and lesion studies have documented the involvement of the frontal lobes in recognition memory. However, the precise nature of prefrontal contributions to verbal and non verbal memory and to familiarity and recollection processes remains unclear. Objective: Investigation of spatial and temporal recognition in Cervical Dystonia (CD). Methods: Four neuropsychological tasks, based on perception in time and space domains of visual and acoustic stimuli, were given to twenty-two CD patients and twenty-two age-matched healthy controls (C). Repeated measure ANOVA was run on group (CD, C), either pooling type of task (spatial, temporal) and type of stimuli (visual, acoustic) factors coming from all tasks either investigating single tasks. Soft Topographic Map for Clustering and Classification of Bacteria

In this work a new method for clustering and building a topographic representation of a bacteria taxonomy is presented. The method is based on the analysis of stable parts of the genome, the so-called “housekeeping genes”. The proposed method generates topographic maps of the bacteria taxonomy, where relations among different type strains can be visually inspected and verified. Two well known DNA alignement algorithms are applied to the genomic sequences. Topographic maps are optimized to represent the similarity among the sequences according to their evolutionary distances.
