Real-time content-aware image resizing using reduced linear model

2010

In this paper an effective and efficient method for contentaware image resizing is proposed. It is based on the solution of a linear system where each pixel displacement (compression or expansion) is determined in dependence of the visual relevance of the pixel itself. The linear nature of the model allows real-time application of the method even for large images. This fully automatic approach can be also improved by interactively providing cues such as geometric constraints and/or manual relevant object labeling. The results have proven that the presented method achieves results comparable or superior to existent strategies, while improving efficiency.

Dealing with reconstruction problems: two cases study

Reconstruction problems are always included in a computer vision system as one of the key step toward the recognition of a scene. There are hierarchies of reconstruction that go from pixels to regions in the lower level, and from patches to objects in higher steps. The success of the reconstruction phase de-pends on several factors: the selection of "suitable" features, the matching function, the linking strategy. I this paper we show some of problems and solutions in two different contexts: the 3D reconstruction from cloud of points representing fragments of archeological finding, and the mosaicing from sea bed video frames. Preliminary results show that in both cases the accuracy is satis…

3D Map Computation from Historical Stereo Photographs of Florence

2018

The analysis of early photographic sources is fundamental for documenting and understanding the evolution of a city so rich in history and art as Florence. Indeed, by the 1860s several photographers used to work in town, and their images (often obtained through stereoscopic set-ups) can help us to reconstruct Florence in 3D as it was by the time of the Italian unification. The first and most delicate part of such reconstruction process is the computation of disparity maps from the historical stereo pairs. This is a very challenging task for fully-automatic computer vision algorithms, since XIX century photographs are affected by several problems—ranging from superficial damages to asynchron…

A Programmable Networked Processing Node for 3D Brain Vessels Reconstruction

2011

Real-time 3D imaging represents a developing trend in medical imaging. However, most of the 3D medical imaging algorithms are computationally intensive. In this paper, a programmable networked node for 3D brain vessels reconstruction is proposed. Starting from 2D PC-MRA (Phase-Contrast Magnetic Resonance Angiography) sequences, the node is able to generate the 3D brain vasculature using the MIP (Maximum Intensity Projection) algorithm. The node has been prototyped on the Celoxica RC203E board, equipped with a Virtex II FPGA, to get the advantages of an hardware implementation, reaching a better throughput with respect to analogous software implementations. Its generality and programmable ca…

Fast Volumetric Reconstruction of Human Body through Superquadrics

2013

This paper describes a technique to reconstruct the volumes of the human body. For this purpose, are introduced mathematical objects able to represent 3d shapes, called super quadrics. These objects are positioned in the space according the captures made by a Microsoft Kinect device and are composed to represent the volumes of the human body. The employment of quaternions provides a relevant speedup for the rotation of the volumes and allows to follow the human movements in real time and reduced computational cost.

Lettura stratigrafica delle murature e studio architettonico della Chiesa

2018

The contribution concerns the study of the construction phases of the church of Santa Marina in Muro Leccese (LE) realized through the stratigraphic reading of the masonry that has allowed, later, to be able to carry out the reconstructive study of the building through a digital model.

Dallo scavo archeologico alla riprogettazione virtuale di un edificio: La chiesa a doppia abside del casale di Quattro Macine, Giuggianello (Lecce)

2003

The increasingly widespread use of computational technologies in the archaeological field it has opened up new possibilities of research thanks to the passage of information technology from simple support for "management and documentation" of data as a tool for the "production and analysis" of data themselves. Nowadays, having new software from computer-aided architectural design (Computer Aided Design) it is possible for the archaeologist to use the computer to realize a virtual reconstruction intended as a tool of archaeological analysis of an artifact building, retracing all the individual steps of the activity constructive up to the original architectural project. To proceed in this wor…

Ricerche a Solunto (2022)

2023

New Investigations at Solunto (2022) ∙ The last fieldwork campaign in Solunto by the University of Palermo, in the sanctuary above the theatre and in the baths near the agora (the North Baths), obtained some relevant results concerning both the building sequences and the architectural configurations. In the sanctuary, a clearer picture is emerging of the oldest layout, dating from the 4th century B.C. (1st phase). After the first reshaping of the street grid and of the urban layout (2nd phase), in the second half of 2nd century B.C., an overall restyling (3rd phase) gave the whole sanctuary area an impressive organization into terraces linked through ramps and stairways. A striking feature,…

2016

This paper illustrates the pursuance of the studies, focused on the initial phases of the Flavian Temple in Leptis, until 2014. The reconstructive hypothesis by the arch. Paolo Mighetto, based on the old and new archaeological data as result of excavations and researches in recent years, allow to publish the first 3d virtual rendering of the Roman Complex, made by Dr. Massimo Limoncelli, member of the Italian-Libian Archaeological Mission
