The Impact of Internet and Social Media Use on Well-Being

The present research examines the longitudinal average impact of frequency of use of Internet and social networking sites (SNS) on subjective well-being of adolescents in Germany. Based on five-wave panel data that cover a period of nine years, we disentangle between-person and within-person effects of media use on depressive symptomatology and life satisfaction as indicators of subjective well-being. Additionally, we control for confounders such as TV use, self-esteem, and satisfaction with friends. Defining a reduced volume zone for the simulation of burst test on a composite pressure vessels

International audience; A Fibre-Break Model (FBM) developed at Mines ParisTech can predict the burst pressure of high pressure composite vessels. This model uses random values of fibre strength at each Gauss point of the considered vessels meshed with finite element (FE). However, previous studies has determined the optimum FEs to be used on real-scale structures (0.1 mm x 0.1 mm x 8 mm). A simple calculation shows that, on a real-scale pressure vessel, this induces a gigantic number of FEs, hence the extensive computation time. Of all physico-chemical quantities characterizing the behavior of liquids, the viscosity coefficient η is normally most sensitive to pressure. Early measurements of η(p) date back almost 100 years [1] but they were carried out with very different objectives [2]. Long-range interactions and the sign of natural amplitudes in two-electron systems

In singlet two-electron systems the natural occupation numbers of the one-particle reduced density matrix are given as squares of the natural amplitudes which are defined as the expansion coefficients of the two-electron wave function in a natural orbital basis. In this work we relate the sign of the natural amplitudes to the nature of the two-body interaction. We show that long-range Coulomb-type interactions are responsible for the appearance of positive amplitudes and give both analytical and numerical examples that illustrate how the long-distance structure of the wave function affects these amplitudes. Effect of sensory exposure on liking for fat- or sugar-reduced biscuits

This study investigates the effect of exposure to fat- or sugar-reduced biscuits on liking for these products. Two sets of biscuits were manufactured, each including a standard variant and 4 variants differing by the level of reduction of either fat or sugar content, to 33% of fat content or 28% of sugar content. Biscuit consumers were recruited to eat either the fat (n ¼ 113) or the sugar-reduced set of biscuits (n ¼ 106). They participated in 5 testing sessions, once a week, in laboratory conditions.
