Background: Congenital arteriovenous fistulas are exceptional in childhood and imply a therapeutic challenge. Case report: A 9-month-old female infant was studied for cephalocorporal disproportion, hypotonia, progressive muscular atrophy and hyperreflexia. Computed tomography of the brain and electroencephalography were normal. Electromyographic patterns suggested proximal myopathic involvement. A continuous murmur with systolic reinforcement was audible in the neck. Effects of power training on neuromuscular performance and mechanical efficiency

Effects of power training with stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) exercises on mechanical efficiency (ME) were investigated with 9 young women who trained 3 times a week for 4 months. The training included various types of jumping exercises. Before and after the training as well as after the detraining (2 months) the subjects performed 6 different submaximal exercises with a special sledge apparatus. Each exercise involved 60 muscle actions lasting for a total of 3 min per testing condition. ABSTRACT Background Temsirolimus (TEMS), an mTOR-inhibitor, is approved the EU for the treatment of patients (pts) with relapsed or refractory MCL (rel/refr). A pivotal study demonstrated significantly longer progression free survival with TEMS (175mg weekly for 3 weeks followed by 75mg weekly) in rel/refr MCL pts compared to investigatoŕs choice therapy (4.8 mo vs 1.9 mo; P = .0009). Clinical Implications in Perimetry After Photorefractive Keratectomy

Through refractive surgery, it is now possible to correct various ametropias using new techniques such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). We hypothesized that patients submitting to PRK show higher peripheral thresholds attributable to poorer retinal quality than normal patients. However, no difference were found when comparing glaucoma with PRK patients. Thus, early glaucoma following PRK may be masked by the previous surgery.

We present a 43-year old patient with refractory secondary glaucoma, who showed epithelial downgrowth into the anterior chamber following Molteno implant surgery. It will be discussed, whether the Molteno implant or the following keratoplasty, which was necessary because of corneal decompensation, caused the epithelial downgrowth.
