The essay examines the complex issue of the division of powers between the State and the Regions according to Title V of the Constitution concerning health and safety at workplace. This division between the center and the periphery has been subject to a limited review by doctrine and jurisprudence expecially focusing on the regulation of labour market. The Author describes a multilevel system characterized by the presence of national and regional sources collective bargaining and codes of conduct. On the basis of a reconstruction of the regulatory framework and the judicial statements the paper proposes a dynamic reading of the relationship between center and periphery in which the axis of the system remains however anchored to the national jurisdiction along with important regulatory issues left to the regional legislation.Settore IUS/07 - Diritto Del Lavoro

Nowadays robotic surgery is established for abdominal and thoracic surgery. It has been shown that complex procedures are feasible using robotic systems, e.g., da Vinci Xi, with a huge benefit in precision. Different techniques for esophageal cancer surgery are reported; however, only a few robotic and partial robotic procedures are described. Pedicled Flaps for Anterior Chest Wall Reconstruction

Pedicled local or regional flaps are the main reconstructive tool for chest wall defects. Muscle or musculocutaneous flaps are most commonly used, with the latissimus dorsi and the pectoralis major being the workhorse flaps. However, perforator flaps have recently affirmed even for reconstruction of complex defects. A thorough knowledge of the vascular anatomy of the thorax and of the patient’s medical history is essential for selecting the best reconstructive option. The defect location, size, and depth as well as previous surgeries in the same area are the main issues affecting the reconstructive choices.

The significance of FNAC in diagnosing differentiated thyroid cancer and the discrepancy between theory and practice - a multi-centre study.

 After non-invasive diagnostic modalities high risk thyroid nodules are investigated with fine needle aspiration cytology in order to find the right surgical strategy for suspected malignancies. Despite the clear recommendation by the European and the American associations (ETA, ATA) its clinical value is doubted and its importance in clinical practice not fully clarified. A multicentric study of 119 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer operated on in 24 surgical departments was conducted. Function of DcuS from Escherichia coli as a Fumarate-stimulated Histidine Protein Kinase in Vitro

The two-component regulatory system DcuSR of Escherichia coli controls the expression of genes of C(4)-dicarboxylate metabolism in response to extracellular C(4)- dicarboxylates such as fumarate or succinate. DcuS is a membrane-integral sensor kinase, and the sensory and kinase domains are located on opposite sides of the cytoplasmic membrane. The intact DcuS protein (His(6)-DcuS) was overproduced and isolated in detergent containing buffer. His(6)-DcuS was reconstituted into liposomes made from E. coli phospholipids. Enzymatically hydrolyzed low-density lipoprotein modulates inflammatory responses in endothelial cells

SummaryThere is evidence that low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is modified by hydrolytic enzymes,and that the product (E-LDL) induces selective production of interleukin 8 (IL-8) in endothelial cells. Since nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) is a major regulator of IL-8 transcription, we studied its activation in endothelial cells treated with E-LDL. Unexpectedly,the modified lipoprotein not only failed to activate NF-κB, but completely blocked its activation by tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in EA.hy926-cells, as assessed by electrophoretic mobility shift assays and immunofluorescence. Nucleosome-specific, Time-dependent Changes in Histone Modifications during Activation of the Early Growth Response 1 (Egr1) Gene

Histone post-translational modifications and nucleosome remodeling are coordinate events involved in eukaryotic transcriptional regulation. There are relatively few data on the time course with which these events occur in individual nucleosomes. As a contribution to fill this gap, we first describe the nature and time course of structural changes in the nucleosomes -2, -1, and +1 of the murine Egr1 gene upon induction. To initiate the transient activation of the gene, we used the stimulation of MLP29 cells with phorbol esters and the in vivo activation after partial hepatectomy. Persistent episomal transgene expression in liver following delivery of a scaffold/matrix attachment region containing non-viral vector

An ideal gene therapy vector should enable persistent transgene expression without limitations of safety and reproducibility. Here we report the development of a non-viral episomal plasmid DNA (pDNA) vector that appears to fulfil these criteria. This pDNA vector combines a scaffold/matrix attachment region (S/MAR) with a human liver-specific promoter (alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT)) in such a way that long-term expression is enabled in murine liver following hydrodynamic injection. α-Synuclein (α-syn) is a small protein of unknown function that is found aggregated in Lewy bodies, the histopathological hallmark of sporadic Parkinson disease and other synucleinopathies. Mutations in the α-syn gene and a triplication of its gene locus have been identified in early onset familial Parkinson disease. α-Syn turnover can be mediated by the proteasome pathway.
