Capability of a high resolution hydroclimatic modelling chain to simulate soil water deficit indices for Douglas-fir and common Beeches over Burgundy.
2016
During the 2003 drought and heat wave event, douglas-fir and common beech stands in Burgundy have been heavily affected, and presented symptoms of dieback and mortality. This event seems to be the first occurrence of expected climatic changes in the near future and questions their sustainability in Burgundy since their climate vulnerability is mainly due to the amplitude and accumulated water constraints exercised during their growing cycle. In the context of climate change and in order to provide information to forest managers who partly rely on a mapping of the climatic constraints until the end of this century, this work explores the ability of a high resolution hydroclimatic modelling c…

L’observatoire de la transition socio-écologique en Franche-Comté. Une référence pour l’Observatoire « Drââ » de la Province de Ouarzazate
2018
This paper presents the principles, method and main results of the Observatory of the Socio-Ecological Transition in Franche-Comté (OTSE-fc). The latter is currently used as a reference for the development of the Drâa observatory of the Province of Ouarzazate as part of the CNRS-CNRST scientific cooperation project 2015-2016. At the request of the participants of the workshop, we also summarized the progress of the territorial diagnosis of the Province of Ouarzazate, which constitutes the basis of the Drââ Observatory. The advances concern a diagnosis carried out among 1650 inhabitants of the province, its main quantitative results and a first exploitation of a qualitative analysis exposing…
Le sport en Franche-Comté : spécificité et organisation de l'espace régional
2007
This paper is a multi-scale analysis of sports in the Franche-Comté region. After reviewing available data sources, the specificities of regional sport are highlighted such as the Nordic activities which are facilitated by the physical environment. Taking into account rates of club membership, the region is an intermediate space between West and South France while professional sport suffers from the absence of large cities. Finally, some regional patterns of sport organizations are examined examplified by three sports which have varying levels of diffusion.
Patrick Geddes, from the Evergreen to the Collège des Ecossais
2020
International audience; This paper discusses Patrick Geddes's vision of cosmopolitanism in the fin de siècle and shows how he developed his own vision of regional cosmopolitanism from The Evergreen (1895-6) to the Collège des Ecossais (1924-40) in Montpellier.
Rebuilding a Cluster while protecting knowledge within Low-medium-tech supplier SMEs: A Spanish and French comparison
2021
International audience; Most of SMEs are engaged in open innovation practices, but they do not benefit from open innovation or from patenting in the same way as larger firms do. At the same time SMEs, as territorialized suppliers, play a crucial role within evolving regional specialization. In this context the purpose of our study is to examine how low and medium technology supplier SMEs learn and organize themselves at a territorial level to address the challenge of IP protection in an open innovation paradigm. We used a qualitative method with a longitudinal multi-case study involving 27 companies with a historical lance to compare the territorial dynamics of knowledge protection within c…
Context-Aware Model Applied to Hog Descriptor for People Detection
2018
International audience; This work proposes and implements a method based on Context-Aware Visual Attention Model (CAVAM), but modifying the method in such way that the detection algorithm is replaced by Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG). After reviewing different algorithms for people detection, we select HOG method because it is a very well known algorithm, which is used as a reference in virtually all current research studies about automatic detection. In addition, it produces accurate results in significantly less time than many algorithms. In this way, we show that CAVAM model can be adapted to other methods for object detection besides Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), as …
Evaluation of the iridocorneal angle with accommodation using optical coherence tomography
2017
The changes in the iridocorneal angle structure during accommodation are assessed by means of anterior segment optical coherence tomography. Thirteen right eyes were included in the study. The device used for the measurement was the Visante® omni system. The stimuli were set up at different vergences (0.0 D, -1.5 D, and -3.0 D). The angle opening distance 500 and 750, the trabecular iris space area 500 and 750, and the scleral spur angle parameters were assessed at the nasal and temporal regions. The results in the iridotrabecular angle comparing the three accommodative states of the eye did not yield any statistically significant difference at nasal or temporal angle sections. In light of …
DNA damage response at telomeres boosts the transcription of SARS-CoV-2 receptor ACE2 during aging
2021
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), known to be more common in the elderly, who also show more severe symptoms and are at higher risk of hospitalization and death. Here, we show that the expression of the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the SARS-CoV-2 cell receptor, increases during aging in mouse and human lungs. ACE2 expression increases upon telomere shortening or dysfunction in both cultured mammalian cells and in vivo in mice. This increase is controlled at the transcriptional level, and Ace2 promoter activity is DNA damage response (DDR)-dependent. Both pharmacological global DDR inhibition of ATM kin…
Could the acid-base status of Antarctic sea urchins indicate a better-than-expected resilience to near-future ocean acidification?
2015
13 pages; International audience; Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration alters the chemistry of the oceans towards more acidic conditions. Polar oceans are particularly affected due to their low temperature, low carbonate content and mixing patterns, for instance upwellings. Calcifying organisms are expected to be highly impacted by the decrease in the oceans' pH and carbonate ions concentration. In particular, sea urchins, members of the phylum Echinodermata, are hypothesized to be at risk due to their high-magnesium calcite skeleton. However, tolerance to ocean acidification in metazoans is first linked to acid–base regulation capacities of the extracellular fluids. No infor…
