The effects of combined diamond microdermabrasion and a mixture of cosmetic acids on the condition of acne prone skin: a case report

2021

Background: Exfoliating treatments are widely used in cosmetology and dermatology forthe treatment of skin lesions and, above all, toreduce the number of skin eruptions that occur with acne vulgaris. An effective treatment that can be offered to people suffering from this disease is diamond microdermabrasion. The addition of acid peeling to this treatment may lead to even better results than in the case of monotherapy. Aim of the study: To assess the effectiveness of a combination of microdermabrasion and acid peeling on a 21-year-old woman suffering from acne vulgaris. Case report: The patient suffered from acne vulgaris, too high a level of sebum on the entire surface of the face, and, ov…

Additional file 7: of Characterization of disease-specific cellular abundance profiles of chronic inflammatory skin conditions from deconvolution of …

2019

Figure S4. Changes in cellular composition due to UVB phototherapy. Comparison of the abundance of various cell types in the lesional and non-lesional skin of patients with atopic dermatitis before and after narrow-band UVB phototherapy. Expression data from dataset GSE27887 [35] was used for this analysis. The p-value of each comparison is presented above each beanplot. (PDF 863 kb)

Self-selected running gait modifications reduce acute impact loading, awkwardness, and effort

2021

Impact loading has been associated with running-related injuries, and gait retraining has been suggested as a means of reducing impact loading and lowering the risk of injury. However, gait retraining can lead to increased perceived awkwardness and effort. The influence of specifically trained and self-selected running gait modifications on acute impact loading, perceived awkwardness and effort is currently unclear. Sixteen habitual rearfoot/midfoot runners performed forefoot strike pattern, increased step rate, anterior trunk lean and self-selected running gait modifications on an instrumented treadmill based on real-time biofeedback. Impact loading, perceived awkwardness and effort scores…

Motor unit activation and force production during eccentric, concentric and isometric actions

2002

The aim of the present series of studies is to examine force and myoelectrical activity in human forearm flexors and knee extensors during dynamic and isometric muscle actions. The main purposes are 1) to clarify the methodological issues regarding the measurements of maximal force, EMG and EMG power spectrum in eccentric, concentric and isometric conditions, 2) to examine the motor unit activation patterns during dynamic and isometric actions by following the behavior of the EMG power spectrum and by utilizing selective intramuscular fine wire electrodes, and 3) to examine the effects of fatigue on force production, aEMG and EMG power spectrum in eccentric and concentric actions.

Correlations of isokinetic and psychophysical back lift and static back extensor endurance tests in men

1994

Isokinetic lift, psychophysical lift, and static back endurance tests are among the most widely used measurements of muscle function for determining risk for, and recovery from, back problems. After determining test repeatability we examined the degree of association between these test measures in 100 men selected to represent a variety of occupations and lifestyles. Isokinetic lifting had low correlations with test results for psychophysical lifting (r = 0.28) and static back endurance (r = 0.24). Static back endurance and psychophysical lift test results were not at all correlated (r = 0.03). RELEVANCE--:Muscle function measurements for back problems are sometimes arbitrarily selected due…

When the Pd/Pa Is Already Significant: A “Quick and Clean” FFR

2016

The assessment of FFR for a single stenosis may also be rapid and not require hyperemia if the Pd/Pa gradient already reaches significance before the vasodilator is administered. In this case the resting Pd/Pa was 0.45, demonstrating that the stenosis was relevant even before hyperemia was achieved.

Importance of static adjustment of knee angle to determine saddle height in cycling

2016

Knee flexion angle is used to determine saddle height during pedaling. However, it is unclear if knee flexion angle at upright standing posture affects measures and interpretation of knee flexion angle during cycling. The objective of this study was to assess the importance of adjusting knee angle during pedaling according to the knee angle at upright posture. Seventeen cyclists performed three 10 min cycling trials at different saddle heights to induce knee flexion angles (40º, 30º or 20º when crank was at the 6 o'clock position). Knee flexion angle was determined at the sagittal plane during cycling using a 2D motion analysis system. Alteration of saddle height was performed by subtractin…

Sinovitis villonodular pigmentada difusa: Revisión de 13 casos

1998

A retrospective study of thirteen patients with pigmented villonodular synovitis was made. Six cases were localized in the knee, two in the wrist and feet, and one in ankle, hip and elbow. Five case showed bone invasion, the pathogenesis, radiographical appearance, diagnosis and treatment are discussed.

Síndrome del túnel carpiano agudo secundario a cuerpo extraño.

2013

A case of acute carpal tunnel syndrome secondary to spine cactus puncture of the wrist is repor - ted. Treatment consisted of early carpal tunnel release and removal of spine cactus. The median nerve function promptly returned to normal. We believe this is the first report of acute carpal tunnel …

Lattice Boltzmann simulations in microfluidics: probing the boundary condition

2008

In this contribution we summarize our investigations of the effect of boundary slip by utilizing lattice Boltzmann simulations. We investigate fluid flow in hydrophobic and rough microchannels and show that a slip due to hydrophobic interactions increases with increasing hydrophobicity and is independent on the shear rate. If surface roughness is not treated properly while analysing experimental results, a large apparent slip might be measured. We show that the no-slip boundary condition holds in this case if an effective surface position at an intermediate position between peaks and valleys of the surface is considered. Further, we study the effect of microbubbles present on a surface and …
