Le politiche per l'innovazione in Sicilia: origini, attività e limitazioni
2009
Policies for Innovation in Sicilia: Origins, Activities and Limits. This article examines origins, activities and limitations of the regional policies for fostering innovation conceived and implemented in Sicily during the last decade, by focusing on three relevant sectors of Sicilian economy: agrifood, industrial manufacturing and tourism. The study moves from the observation of the mounting relevance that innovation diffusion policy has assumed in regional territorial contexts, which have the greatest meaning in times of global-local dialectic (“glocalization”). In particular, the leading hypothesis is that for Sicilian micro, small and medium-sized firms operating in international settin…

Innovations of a sub-regional plan: Palermo and its territory in Sicily
2012
Abstract Territorial planning (provincial or sub-regional) in Italy is still up to this day regulated, at national level, similarly to the local administrative planning, but with less influence on the use of the territory, particularly for public infrastructures. This makes the territorial planning inadequate in keeping up with nowadays fast pace transformations. The required transformations are depending less on the regular planning process and are increasingly following the expenditure needs for uncoordinated individual investments, particularly from the European Union. The new pace of the expenditures, mainly imposed for more significant works and based on the link “financing-project-dis…
Influence of the Cultural Background at Small and Medium Sized-Enterprises Innovations in Regional Dimension
2017
Research background: SME’s play crucial role in economy’s development. In EU they make up 99% of all enterprises and are at the forefront of technological innovations (Kotler et al., 1999, pp. 139-140; EC 2013, p. 2; Jasińska-Biliczak, 2016, p. 30). Being the flywheel for economies (Soininen et. al., 2012, p. 614) are called “hidden champions” of 20th century. Over past few years Europe-wide anal-yses (Griffin, 2004, p. 424) have emphasised the importance of investing in SME’s. Taking into consideration that cultural environment is the background to decisions: social, managerial, development (Hofstede et al., 2011, p. 46), so inno-vations, knowledge, skills and competences as well as cultur…

Transport i logistyka jako potencjalne smart specialisations województwa opolskiego – próba wstępnej oceny
2019
The article presents the preliminary assessment of the activities undertaken in the Opolskie Voivodeship in connection with the implementation of the regional innovation strategy for 2014–2018. In particular, attention is focused on issues related to the methodology of identifying the so-called “smart specializations” and their practical dimension. The subject of the analysis are issues related to transport and logistics, because these areas were highlighted in both strategies – of regional development and the innovation strategy. Moreover, that sustainable transport for the mobility of residents is one of the 10 priority axes of the Opolskie Voivodeship’s Operational Program. The n + 3 rul…
Complement C5 but not C3 is expendable for tissue factor activation by cofactor-independent antiphospholipid antibodies
2018
The complement and coagulation cascades interact at multiple levels in thrombosis and inflammatory diseases. In venous thrombosis, complement factor 3 (C3) is crucial for platelet and tissue factor (TF) procoagulant activation dependent on protein disulfide isomerase (PDI). Furthermore, C5 selectively contributes to the exposure of leukocyte procoagulant phosphatidylserine (PS), which is a prerequisite for rapid activation of monocyte TF and fibrin formation in thrombosis. Here, we show that monoclonal cofactor-independent antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) rapidly activate TF on myelomonocytic cells. TF activation is blocked by PDI inhibitor and an anti-TF antibody interfering with PDI bin…
NG-monomethyl-L-arginine and NG-nitro-L-arginine inhibit endothelium-dependent relaxations in human isolated omental arteries.
1991
Abstract The L-arginine analogues NG-monomethyl-l-arginine (l-NMMA, 10−4 m) and NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME, 10−4 m), which specifically inhibit the synthesis of nitric oxide from l-arginine, significantly reduced acetylcholine-induced endothelium-dependent relaxations in rings of human omental arteries. The inhibitory potency of l-NMMA and l-NAME was similar. Addition of l-NMMA or l-NAME to the organ bath did not induce any significant changes in the resting tension of the tissues. The effects of l-NMMA were reversed by l-arginine (3 × 10−4 m). The l-NMMA enantiomer, d-NMMA (10−4 m), did not influence either the basal tone of the preparation or the relaxing effects of acet…
