Gossypiboma is an inflammatory reaction to a foreign body, specifically composed of a cotton matrix left behind after surgery. The present study aims to present a case report of gossypiboma 23 years after a dental surgery and to make a literature review of the English language cases published on the issue. A 42-year-old woman was attended to evaluate complaints of pain on the right side of the maxilla. Number and size of rat thyroid C cells: No effect of pinealectomy

A method for the estimation of the size and total number of calcitonin-containing cells (C cells) in the rat thyroid gland has been devised. The total area, the number of C cells per unit area, and the areal fraction of C cells were determined for the C cell region using step serial sections. From these data it was estimated that from 0.3 X 10(6) to 1.0 X 10(6) C cells were evenly divided between the two thyroid lobes. Approximately 150 micron3 of cytoplasm were associated with each of these cells. In comparison with sham-operated rats, pinealectomy had little effect on the number of C cells. Cavernous hemangioma of the parotid gland in adults

Hemangiomas account for 0.4-0.6% of all tumors of the parotid gland and most of them occur in children, nevertheless in adults hemangiomas are very rare. We report the case of a 62 year old woman with a mass in the parotid right tail associated with fluctuating swelling episodes unrelated to meals and with a slowly progressive growth. The provisional diagnosis was a pleomorphic adenoma, so a right superficial parotidectomy was performed. During surgery, the macroscopic appearance makes suspect a vascular lesion. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of SAS in patients with ILD and its clinical characteristics, evolution and specific manifestations linked to each antisynthetase antibodies and highlight the need for its screening in ILD. Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients registered in the last two years in our ILD unit, determining antisynthetase antibodies and analyzing clinical, radiological, functional data and illness evolution. Background: The aim of this study is to report on the feasibility of laparoscopic neurolysis of the plexus sacralis and the sciatic nerve in deep endometriotic infiltration of the lateral pelvic wall. Methods: A transperitoneal approach to the pelvic nerves combined with the LANN technique for intraoperative assessment of the function of the exposed nerves permit exposure and sparing of all somatic nerves during resection of the endometriotic lesion. Coronary Spasm in Patients Treated by Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty

The appearance of coronary spasm during PTCA was analyzed in 140 consecutive patients with stable and unstable angina. Coronary spasm was found in 27 patients (19%) and was more common in unstable than in stable angina pectoris (22 versus 5 patients). While coronary spasm could be seen in the first coronary angiogram in 5/27 patients, it developed during the diagnostic procedure in 6/27 patients. In 16/27 patients coronary spasm was induced by the balloon or the guide wire itself.

Brachial plexus block was first performed in 1885 by William Steward Halsted, who used cocaine and direct exposure of the roots in the neck to accomplish the block. In 1911, Hirschel and Kulenkampff described the first percutaneous brachial plexus block by the axillary and supraclavicular routes respectively. Since these historic reports, the efficacy of brachial plexus block has been confirmed, and the block is now commonly used to provide upperextremity anesthesia.
