AbstractMiR-125b-1 maps at 11q24, a chromosomal region close to the epicenter of 11q23 deletions in chronic lymphocytic leukemias (CLLs). Our results establish that both aggressive and indolent CLL patients show reduced expression of miR-125b. Overexpression of miR-125b in CLL-derived cell lines resulted in the repression of many transcripts encoding enzymes implicated in cell metabolism. Metabolomics analyses showed that miR-125b overexpression modulated glucose, glutathione, lipid, and glycerolipid metabolism. Changes on the same metabolic pathways also were observed in CLLs. Bone morphogenetic protein-6 (BMP-6) belongs to the family of TGF-beta-related growth factors. In the developing epidermis, expression of BMP-6 coincides with the onset of stratification. Expression persists perinatally but declines after day 6 postpartum, although it can still be detected in adult skin by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. This paper investigates the border effect on the Basque Country's trade, using a sample of 28 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries between 1995 and 2001. The results indicate that after controlling for market size and distance, the Basque Country trades between 12 and 16 times more with the rest of Spain than it does with any other country. The mammography is the most effective procedure for an early diagnosis of the breast cancer. In this paper, an algorithm for detecting massive lesions in mammographic images will be presented. The database consists of 3762 digital images acquired in several hospitals belonging to the MAGIC-5 collaboration. A reduction of the surface under investigation is achieved, without loss of meaningful information, through segmentation of the whole image, by means of a ROI Hunter algorithm.
