Estimation of the Compatibility Between Poly(Methylmethacrylate) and Poly(Styrene Co Vinyl Phenol) Blends from Dilute Solution Measurements

Abstract The compatibility of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with poly(styrene‐co‐vinyl phenol) (PS‐VPh) with two different contents of vinyl phenol, 5.8 and 7.2%, in dilute tetrahydrofuran solutions has been investigated by size exclusion chromatography and fluorescence spectroscopy at 25°C. The chromatographic technique permits the evaluation of the preferential solvation at different PMMA/PS‐VPh ratios. Changes in the fluorescence properties of PS‐VPh, caused by its association with PMMA, were used to obtain the fraction of copolymer bound to PMMA at diverse PMMA compositions. Evolution of the Human chromosome 7: new information from the mapping of William-Breuren locus on non human primates chromosomes.

Human chromosome 7 (HSA7) derives, by a pericentric inversion and a paracentric inversion, from an ancestral chromosome homologous to chromosome 10 of Pongo pygmaeus (the Asiatic Orang-Utan). Nevertheless the genesis of this autosome during primates evolution is not clear. Even if chromosome painting shows that HAS 7 synteny is highly conserved, GTG-banding comparison in Hominoidea and Cercopithecoidea indicates the probable occurrence of complex rearrangements during the evolution. Notes on the karyology, genetics and ecology of Genista sect. Voglera in Sicily

To investigate the biosystematic and genetic relationships among Sicilian species of Genista sect. Voglera, four populations of three species, Genista aristata C. Presl, Genista cupanii Guss., and Genista madoniensis Raimondo, have been studied. Genista madoniensis is tetraploid, with a chromosome number of 2n = 48, as are the other two species. An isozyme study showed that G. madoniensis is taxonomically closer to G. aristata than to G. cupanii, the latter possessing four unique alleles. The results are discussed in the context of the ecological characteristics of each species.

The proteases of the lectin pathway of complement activation, MASP-1 and MASP-2, are encoded by two separate genes. The MASP1 gene is located on chromosome 3q27, the MASP2 gene on chromosome 1p36.23-31. The genes for the classical complement activation pathway proteases, C1r and C1s, are linked on chromosome 12p13. We have shown that the MASP2 gene encodes two gene products, the 76 kDa MASP-2 serine protease and a plasma protein of 19 kDa, termed MAp19 or sMAP. Both gene products are components of the lectin pathway activation complex. Decennal census-led redistricting in the United States is the occasion for court actions focused nowadays on the political representation of ethnic minorities. Computer tools make possible the building of districts specifically tailored for Blacks or Hispanics, but blatant racial gerrymandering is now rejected by the US Supreme Court. This paper examines the most relevant judicial decisions and describes several local cases.

The families Pseudococcidae (mealybugs) and Monophlebidae include small scale insects (Coccoidea: Hemiptera) that suck out plant sap. The bodies of young instars and adult females are covered with a wax secretion, whereas adult males carry a pair of small wings. Feeding by these pests can cause premature leaf, flower, and fruit drop, reduce plant vigour and discolour tissues.
