Enantioseparation of nuarimol by affinity electrokinetic chromatography-partial filling technique using human serum albumin as chiral selector
2008
The present paper deals with the enantiomeric separation of nuarimol enantiomers by affinity EKC-partial filling technique using HSA as chiral selector. Firstly, a study of nuarimol interactions with HSA by CE-frontal analysis was performed. The binding parameters obtained for the first site of interaction were n(1) = 0.84; K(1) = 9.7 +/- 0.3x10(3 )M(-1) and the protein binding percentage of nuarimol at physiological concentration of HSA was 75.2 +/- 0.2%. Due to the moderate affinity of nuarimol towards HSA the possibility of using this protein as chiral selector for the separation of nuarimol using the partial filling technique was evaluated. A multivariate optimization approach of the mo…
Laparoscopic management of an isolated left fallopian tube torsion due to twisted Morgagni hydatid in a pre-menarcheal girl.
2014
Isolated torsion of fallopian tube, meanwhile uncommon, should be considered in diagnosis of pelvic and lower abdominal pain. US investigation is an useful diagnostic tool. A prompt diagnosis could avoid salpingectomy and preserve fertility. Laparoscopy, as the first approach, should be preferred. We report a case of isolated tubal torsion occurring in a premenarcheal girl successfully managed by laparoscopy.
Investigation of PTEN promoter methylation in ameloblastoma
2019
Background Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) acts as a tumor suppressor gene. Inactivation of PTEN has been reported in various types of cancers. PTEN promoter methylation possibly underlies PTEN inactivation, which results in tumorigenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether PTEN promoter methylation contributes to PTEN inactivation in ameloblastoma and its associated protein expression. Material and Methods In total, 20 fresh-frozen ameloblastoma samples were evaluated for PTEN promoter methylation using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MS-PCR). A subset of 10 paraffin-embedded ameloblastoma samples was examined for PTEN expression through immunohistochemi…
Terrorism as a threat to international tourism: world trends
2018
Current world trends in the development of tourism industry are studied in the article. The essence and types of terrorism have been determined; their classification has been provided. The influence of terrorist acts on the development of tourism in different regions has been analyzed. The efforts made by the international community to neutralize this new challenge for the tourism business have been examined.
von Hippel-Lindau Protein-Mediated Repression of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha Translation Revealed through Use of cDNA Arrays
2003
Based on evidence that the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumor suppressor protein is associated with polysomes and interacts with translation regulatory factors, we set out to investigate the potential influence of pVHL on protein translation. To this end, renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cells that either lacked pVHL or expressed pVHL through stable transfection were used to prepare RNA from cytosolic (unbound) and polysome-bound fractions. Hybridization of cDNA arrays using RNA from each fraction revealed a subset of transcripts whose abundance in polysomes decreased when pVHL function was restored. The tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) mRNA was identified as one of the transcripts that prefere…
Współpraca transgraniczna jako czynnik transformacji międzynarodowych funkcji granicy ukraińsko-polskiej
2014
Zbadano determinanty funkcjonowania euroregionów, obejmujących tereny przygraniczne Polski i Ukrainy. Jako jedno z istotnych wyzwań w tym zakresie na współczesnym etapie należy rozpatrywać konieczność doskonalenia infrastruktury transportowej, modernizacja której będzie sprzyjała poprawie funkc…
rhoB encoding a UV-inducible Ras-related small GTP-binding protein is regulated by GTPases of the Rho family and independent of JNK, ERK, and p38 MAP…
1998
The small GTPase RhoB is immediate-early inducible by DNA damaging treatments and thus part of the early response of eukaryotic cells to genotoxic stress. To investigate the regulation of this cellular response, we isolated the gene for rhoB from a mouse genomic library. Sequence analysis of the rhoB gene showed that its coding region does not contain introns. The promoter region of rhoB harbors regulatory elements such as TATA, CAAT, and Sp1 boxes but not consensus sequences for AP-1, Elk-1, or c-Jun/ATF-2. The rhoB promoter was activated by UV irradiation, but not by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate treatment. rhoB promoter deletion constructs revealed a fragment of 0.17 kilobases in …
Activation of protein kinase C alpha and/or epsilon enhances transcription of the human endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene.
1998
In primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), incubation with phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) enhanced basal and bradykinin-stimulated nitric oxide production. In the HUVEC-derived cell line EA.hy 926, PMA and phorbol-12,13-dibutyrate stimulated endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS III) mRNA expression in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Maximal mRNA expression (3.3-fold increase) was observed after 18 hr. NOS III protein and activity were increased to a similar extent. The specific protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitors bisindolylmaleimide I (1 microM), Gö 6976 [12-(2 cyanoethyl)-6,7,12, 13-tetrahydro-13-methyl-5-oxo-5H-indolo[2,3-a]pyrrolo-[3, 4-c]carbazole] (1…
ADHD and DAT1: Further evidence of paternal over-transmission of risk alleles and haplotype
2010
Contains fulltext : 87259.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) We [Hawi et al. (2005); Am J Hum Genet 77:958-965] reported paternal over-transmission of risk alleles in some ADHD-associated genes. This was particularly clear in the case of the DAT1 3'-UTR VNTR. In the current investigation, we analyzed three new sample comprising of 1,248 ADHD nuclear families to examine the allelic over-transmission of DAT1 in ADHD. The IMAGE sample, the largest of the three-replication samples, provides strong support for a parent of origin effect for allele 6 and the 10 repeat allele (intron 8 and 3'-UTR VNTR, respectively) of DAT1. In addition, a similar pattern of over-transmission of paternal ri…
Organization and expression of the chum salmon insulin-like growth factor II gene
1997
AbstractIGF-II plays an important role in growth and development of vertebrates. In the present study, the characterization of the first fish IGF-II gene, chum salmon IGF-II, is described. The sIGF-II gene consists of four exons, spanning a region of 9 kbp, that encode the 214 aa IGF-II precursor. While the amino acid sequences of fully processed IGF-II of salmon and mammalian species are very similar, the prepro-peptide sequence deviates extensively in the signal- and E-peptide domains. The transcription initiation site of the sIGF-II gene was localized within a 30 nt region employing RT-PCR. Using sIGF-II promoter-luciferase constructs it was demonstrated that the sIGF-II gene has a relat…
