Endoscopic carpal tunnel release: results with special consideration to possible complications.

Single-portal endoscopic carpal tunnel release (Agee technique) was carried out in 148 patients. Of these, 100 were examined clinically and electrophysiologically 1 day before surgery and 1 and 3 months thereafter. Ten patients experienced transient ulnar neuropraxia and two patients complained postoperatively of intense pain in the middle and ring fingers. Three patients suffered residual symptoms. In one of these an incomplete release of the distal portion of the retinaculum flexorum was suspected and later confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Background: The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the relationship between interleukin-6 promoter -174G/C (IL-6 -174G/C) polymorphism and insulin resistance (IR) in obese patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Summary Several studies show that inflammatory components may contribute to atherosclerosis and increase the risk for myocardial infarction (MI). Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a key pro-inflammatory and immune-modulatory cytokine of relevance for cardiovascular diseases. In this case-control study, 200 patients with MI and 257 healthy controls were genotyped for the polymorphism present in −174 promoter region of the IL-6 gene. Plasma concentrations of IL-6 and C-reactive protein (CRP) in a group of patients and controls were measured. Effect of intramedullary gradual elongation of the shorter limb on gait patterns

Background: Seven young patients were followed 52 weeks after intramedullary lengthening for limb length discrepancy (LLD). The mean LLD before surgery was 3.0 ± 1.1 cm and 1 year after surgery at the time of the nail-removal it was 0.3 ± 0.3 cm. Methods: The plantar pressures and the ground reaction forces (GRF) were recorded simultaneously with electromyographic (EMG) activities at normal and fast walking speeds. Results: Bilateral comparison indicated that the uncorrected LLD resulted in asymmetrical gait patterns. Background: Hip fracture may result in an asymmetrical lower-limb strength deficit. The deficit may be related to the trauma, surgical treatment, pain, or disuse of the fractured limb. Choroidal osteoma with choroidal excavation and associated neovascular membrane: An OCT-angiography study.

Abstract Clinical case A case is presented of a unilateral choroidal osteoma with choroidal excavation and associated neovascular membrane that was studied using OCT-angiography. The OCT and OCT-angiography revealed an area of choroidal excavation and an active neovascular membrane. Three doses of aflibercept were administered to the patient, which stabilized the neovascularisation. Discussion OCT-angiography was used to analyze the morphology of the superficial vascular network of the osteoma, as well as to monitor the evolution of the neovascular membrane.

Hypertension is a side effect of systemically administered glucocorticoids, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood. Ingestion of dexamethasone by rats telemetrically instrumented increased blood pressure progressively over 7 days. Plasma concentrations of Na + and K + and urinary Na + and K + excretion remained constant, excluding a mineralocorticoid-mediated mechanism.
