French trade-unions relations at the light of international commitments, 1948-1978
2003
In 1948, the tripartition of french trade-unionism finds his international foundation again : the CGT is affiliated to the WFTU, the CFTC to the ICCTU and FO to the ICFTU. This configuration remains stable during three decades. From the Cold war to the Detente, the CGT fits into the communist network, the CFTC into the Christian-democrat network and FO into the social-democrat network. This enrolment in the logic of block contributes to the national division ; in the same time, the position of french confederations in their international organization takes part in the installation of international tripartition. From the mid 1960's, geopolitical evolutions transform the morphology of transna…
Study of relationships between the structure of aroma compounds and their retention-release between vapour phase and dairy gels
2010
An integrated approach physicochemistry and structures activity relationships has been carried out to study the aroma compounds retention-release phenomenon in a fat free dairy gel added with pectin. This study aimed to identify the molecular properties that govern this phenomenon assuming that modifying the structure leads automatically to a change in the retention-release of aroma compounds. For this purpose, we have determined the partition coefficients of 28 aroma compounds in water, in pectin gels and in dairy gels supplemented or not supplemented with pectin, at equilibrium conditions using the PRV method (Phase Ratio Variation). Then, we have performed a structure-retention relations…

Application of a simple algorithm to estimate daily evapotranspiration from NOAA–AVHRR images for the Iberian Peninsula
2007
International audience; Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key process in land surface–atmosphere studies. It mainly depends on water availability and incoming solar radiation and then reflects the interactions between surface water processes and climate. In this paper, a methodology for retrieving ET from low spatial resolution remote sensing data is presented. It is based on the evaporative fraction concept, and it has been applied to Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AHVRR) data acquired over the Iberian Peninsula. The methodology does not require other data than the data provided by the satellite and may be applied to areas with almost spatially constant atmospheric conditions and whi…
A simple method for estimating downward longwave radiation from surface and satellite data by clear sky
1990
Abstract An attempt to derive downward longwave radiation at the surface in clear sky conditions is presented. A method that integrates satellite-measured infrared radiation temperatures with ground measurements of water vapour pressure is applied to Meteosat data. Satellite-derived fluxes are compared with corresponding ground-measured fluxes at three different sites in France and during various seasons. Comparison of the daily averaged fluxes shows a correlation coefficient of 0–88 and an r.m.s. difference between satellite estimates and ground measurements of 12 Wm-2.
Quantification of land-atmosphere exchanges of water, energy and carbon dioxide in space and time over the heterogeneous Barrax site
2008
International audience; To advance our understanding of land-atmosphere exchanges of water, energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) in space and time over heterogeneous land surfaces, two intensive field campaigns were carried out at the Barrax agricultural test site in Spain during 12-21 July 2004 (SPARC 2004) and 8-14 July 2005 (SEN2FLEX 2005) involving multiple field, satellite and airborne instruments for characterizing the state of the atmosphere, the vegetation and the soil from the visible to the microwave range of the spectrum. Part of the experimental area is a core site of area 25 km2, within which numerous crops are grown, on both irrigated and dry land, alongside fields of bare soil. Th…
It runs in the family?
2022
AbstractFamily background has been shown to be a strong determinant of educational attainment, yet relatively little is known about the role that family background plays in PhD attainment or in the selection into academic careers. In this study, we estimate sibling correlations from Finnish full population register data to comprehensively assess the importance of family background in selection into academia. Our results show that family background accounts for over a third of the overall variation in becoming a PhD and subsequently an academic — a share which is up to four times as large as implied by conventional comparisons by parental education. However, we did not find evidence that fam…
Aging well in the community: Understanding the complexities of older people's dial-a-ride bus journeys
2021
Older peoples' independent living in their own homes and their ability to move around and maintain social relations in their communities have been acknowledged as important aims to support their well-being. In this article, we study Special Transport Services as a means to support older persons with ‘aging in place’ – that is, within their communities. From “go-alongs” (shared dial-a-ride bus journeys) and “sit-down interviews” (at participant's home or a café) with 12 older people living in a Finnish suburb, we explored their everyday dial-a-ride bus trips to the local mall. We used actor-network theory and the concept of motility to show how at first glance what appeared to be simple dial…
Understanding Addiction Using Animal Models
2019
Drug addiction is a neuropsychiatric disorder with grave personal consequences that has an extraordinary global economic impact. Despite decades of research, the options available to treat addiction are often ineffective because our rudimentary understanding of drug-induced pathology in brain circuits and synaptic physiology inhibits the rational design of successful therapies. This understanding will arise first from animal models of addiction where experimentation at the level of circuits and molecular biology is possible. We will review the most common preclinical models of addictive behavior and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. This includes non-contingent models in whi…
