Quantum mechanical settings inspired by RLC circuits
2018
In some recent papers several authors used electronic circuits to construct loss and gain systems. This is particularly interesting in the context of PT-quantum mechanics, where this kind of effects appears quite naturally. The electronic circuits used so far are simple, but not so much. Surprisingly enough, a rather trivial RLC circuit can be analyzed with the same perspective and it produces a variety of unexpected results, both from a mathematical and on a physical side. In this paper we show that this circuit produces two biorthogonal bases associated to the Liouville matrix $\Lc$ used in the treatment of its dynamics, with a biorthogonality which is linked to the value of the parameter…

Reliability and Retention Study of Nanocrystal Cell Array
2002
We have studied nanocrystal memory arrays with 2.56 × 105 cells (256kb) in which Si nanocrystals have been obtained by CVD deposition on a 4nm tunnel oxide. The cells in the array are programmed and erased by electron tunneling through the SiO2 dielectric. We find that the threshold voltage distribution has little spread. In addition the arrays are also very robust with respect to drain stress and show good retention.
Model of ageing inception and growth from microvoids in polyethylene-based materials under AC voltage
2008
Several degradation mechanisms may affect polymeric insulation system reliability. Some authors postulate that, even in a perfect dielectric, nanoscale cavities can enlarge due to various mechanisms (from mechanical fatigue to lowering of the degradation reaction energy barrier) up to a point where highly energetic phenomena, which bring about breakdown, can be incepted. Other authors are more focused on the inherent limits of manufacturing processes, which leave cavities within the insulation system whose size is large enough to cause electron avalanches, thus a measurable partial discharge (PD) activity, from the time the system is put in service or as a function of external factors (e.g.…
CiNetStrain - Wireless Strain Gauge Network - Calibration and Reliability Measurements
2013
Wireless sensor networks can be extended to include numerous different sensing devices. Strain gauges are the most common nondestructive sensing elements for measuring surface strain. This paper discusses the design, for the wireless CiNet network, of a strain gauge measurement system, which would make strain measurements more flexible while opening new targets of application in addition to those that traditional wired strain measuring systems can offer. The calibration and validation of the wireless strain measurements as well as energy consumption issues are also brought under observation.
An exact algorithm for preventive maintenance planning of series-parallel systems
2009
Reliability is a meaningful parameter in assessing the performance of systems such as chemical processing facilities, power plant, aircrafts, ships, etc. In the literature, reliability optimization is widely considered during the system design phase and it is carried out by an opportune selection of both system components and redundancy. On the other hand, the problem of maintaining a required level of reliability by an opportune maintenance policy has been poorly examined. The paper tackles this problem for a system whose major components can be maintained only during a planned system downtime. An exact algorithm is proposed in order to single out the set of components that must be maintai…
Generalized Entropies, Variance and Applications
2020
The generalized cumulative residual entropy is a recently defined dispersion measure. In this paper, we obtain some further results for such a measure, in relation to the generalized cumulative residual entropy and the variance of random lifetimes. We show that it has an intimate connection with the non-homogeneous Poisson process. We also get new expressions, bounds and stochastic comparisons involving such measures. Moreover, the dynamic version of the mentioned notions is studied through the residual lifetimes and suitable aging notions. In this framework we achieve some findings of interest in reliability theory, such as a characterization for the exponential distribution, various resul…
Dependability-Based Reliability Analysis in URC Networks: Availability in the Space Domain
2019
Ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC), which refers to achieving almost 100% reliability at a certain (satisfactory) level of services and stringent latency, is one of the key requirements for 5G networks. However, most prior studies on reliable communication did not address space domain analysis. Neither were they pursued from a dependability perspective. This paper addresses the ultra-reliable communication (URC) aspect of URLLC and aims at advocating the concept of URC from a dependability perspective in the space domain. We perform in-depth analysis on URC considering both the spatial characteristics of cell deployment and user distributions, as well as service requirements. …
System Times and Channel Availability for Secondary Transmissions in CRNs: A Dependability Theory based Analysis
2017
[EN] Reliability is of fundamental importance for the performance of secondary networks in cognitive radio networks (CRNs). To date, most studies have focused on predicting reliability parameters based on prior statistics of traffic patterns from user behavior. In this paper, we define a few reliability metrics for channel access in multichannel CRNs that are analogous to the concepts of reliability and availability in classical dependability theory. Continuous-time Markov chains are employed to model channel available and unavailable time intervals based on channel occupancy status. The impact on user access opportunities based on channel availability is investigated by analyzing the stead…
Multi-State System in human reliability analysis
2009
Application of mathematical model of Multi-State System for human reliability analysis is considered in the paper. This paper describes new method for estimation of changes of more than one component states and they influence to Multi-State System reliability by Dynamic Reliability Indices. The Multi-State System failure is considered depending on decrease of some system component efficiency and the Multi-State System repair is declared depending on replacement of some failed components. The mathematical approach of Logical Differential Calculus is used for analysis of the Multi-State System reliability change that is caused by modifications of some system components states.
