Monitoring elevation variations in leaf phenology of deciduous broadleaf forests from SPOT/VEGETATION time-series
2011
International audience; In mountain forest ecosystems where elevation gradients are prominent, temperature gradient-based phonological variability can be high. However, there are few studies that assess the capability of remote sensing observations to monitor ecosystem phenology along elevation gradients, despite their relevance under climate change. We investigated the potential of medium resolution remotely sensed data to monitor the elevation variations in the seasonal dynamics of a temperate deciduous broadleaf forested ecosystem. Further, we explored the impact of elevation on the onset of spring leafing. This study was based on the analysis of multi-annual time-series of VEGETATION da…
Modelling of ERS-2 radar backscattering over rocky arid regions
2003
This paper discusses the potential of radar signals to characterize stone cover over bare soil surfaces in arid rocky regions. Ground truth and radar measurements were made over two arid sites: Avdat (Israel) and Foumtillich (Morocco). An empirical approach is proposed to derive stone cover percentage from pin profiler measurements. A numerical Moment method based on integral equations of backscattering has been used to study the influence of stone cover on simulated radar signal. The results of the simulations are compared with European Remote Sensing Satellite (ERS-2) radar measurements over test areas with different stone covers. Excellent agreement is observed between numerical simulati…

ModeLTER : modelling of landscapes and territories over the long term, the members of an European Associated Laboratory (EAL) in CAENTI.
2006
International audience; The aim of this new project is the modelisation of landscapes and territories over the long term. This has been a topic that engaged the proposed research team for several years, particularly in the frame of two European projects, Archeomedes I & II, during the 1990s (Van der Leeuw S., Favory F., Fiches J.- L. (eds.) 2003, Favory F., Girardot J.-J., van der Leeuw S. 2004). Both French and Slovenian teams were involved in the project by Professors S. Van der Leeuw and Z. Stančič. Since this period, the collaboration of French and Slovenian researchers increased in activity, and it finds now a new organization in an European Associated Laboratory, linking archaeologist…
