Adrenal myelolipoma associated with adenoma

The association of an adrenal myelolipoma with a non-functioning adenoma is very rare. Herein, we report on such a case in an asymptomatic 64-year-old woman. To the best of our knowledge, there is only one other case of non-functioning adrenocortical adenoma associated with myelolipoma in the same gland. Furthermore, only two other adenomas (mineral corticoids and corticosteroid producing tumors) associated with myelolipomas have been reported, and both myelolipomas were less than 1 cm in size. In conclusion, the 8.5 cm myelolipoma in our case is the largest compared with the three previously reported ones.

Objective: Radical nephrectomy remains the gold standard for surgically resectable kidney neoplasms > 4 cm and, in selected cases, also in presence of metastatic disease. We reviewed the records of the patients having surgery at the University of Genoa in the last 35 yr. Methods: We have retrospectively assessed all the radical nephrectomies performed between 1970 and 2005. Among tumours of the kidney subjected to surgical treatment during this period, we found 1105 cases of histologically proven renal cell carcinoma (RCC), 965 of which had records available for the study. Abstract The goal of this article is to provide recommendations about the management of kidney cancer. Based on pathologic and molecular features, several kidney cancer variants were described. Nephron-sparing techniques are the gold standard of localized disease. After a randomized trial, sunitinib could be considered in adjuvant treatment in high-risk patients. Patients with advanced disease constitute a heterogeneous population. Prognostic classification should be considered. Both sunitinib and pazopanib are the standard options for first-line systemic therapy in advanced renal cell carcinoma. Groups of normal rats of both sexes in moderate water diuresis received i.v. injections of 5 ml./kg, of hypertonic (5 times isoosmotic) solutions of sodium chloride, mannitol er sodium sulfate. The renal excretion of water, sodium, chloride and potassium in a 30 minute-period following this injection was measured. It was compared to control values obtained 40 minutes earlier in the same animals after an i.v. injection of isotonic glucose solution. All hypertonic solutions increased diuresis, natriuresis, chloruresis and kaliuresis. Water, sodium, potassium and chloride balances, food uptake and changes in body weight were determined in large groups of adrenalectomized or sham-operated rats having permanent access to water, 0.9 per cent saline and rat crackers. Measurements were done on the 5th to 8th day, or else on the 11th to 14th day after operation.
